Thanks.Β I love Trek but find their ships really hard to draw with all the curves and lettering. Β

I grew up with it too, and has remained my favorite show since I first saw "Where No Man has Gone Before," the third aired episode, when I was eight. I remember the next day drawing my concept of how the starship launched from the ground at a 45 degree angle...wish I still had that picture. Keep up the great work!

I grew up with it in syndication in the 70's.Β These guys were my first heroes even before "Star Wars".Β I even remember taping episodes on cassette since we didn't have any way to record the video or buy them.Β Kids are so spoiled these days! I would read the James Blish books to experience them again.Β I would draw my own little technical manuals.Β I think I still do have some of those.

That's very cool! I also read all those Blish books too...they were adapted from the first drafts of those scripts, usually...so they had differences that I appreciated. I taped some of the better episodes on 8 Track, to show you how old I am! Used to listen to them on long drives in the car. I have an oil painting and a watercolor both of the original starship in my collection here, if you want to look them up. Both were commissions, and I still have another watercolor that I painted about 20 years ago that is signed by fellow aviation artist Matt Jefferies, long passed now. I don't have to tell you who he was!

Those are cool...especially with Matt's signature.Β I do a of celebrity portraits and have often thought it would be neat to be able to get one to sign their portrait for me.

It was really cool to know that man for a few years...I was invited to his hangar office a few times, where he had stuff from the original show...like whole sickbay beds and those little tv things they had in the briefing room, as well as a few of those chairs they used everywhere. It was really cool. He was very talented and a great guy to everyone. Getting signatures isn't really my thing...but it is for so many people, so if possible, always try to get one. I have a good friend who has a signature (with photo) of EVERY regular character of all the ST shows, save the new one, and most of the guest stars even...really amazing collection...so those people are out there!

Great picture. Better than the matte pictures in the original serie. But then they did not have the same tools at the time.

I too find it challenging.Β I've been doing it for a little over a year and feel like I'm starting to finally understand how to get it to work the way I want (sort of!).Β I think the thing I like about it is that I did pencil for years and I find this somewhat similar in the way you can build it up with layers.
