I picked up Lord of Light because I saw this picture and read your description. It does not disappoint. My hat's off to you.

"not totally accurate as described" is a bit of an understatement (I happen to be reading the book at the moment, and I just finished the chapter where Agni appears for the first time, so the description is still fresh in my mind, and nothing like this) but it's still fucking awesome, and still conveys the general feel of Agni, if not the appearance.
I actually found this because I was thinking of drawing my own interpretation of Agni, and I wanted to see what other people had done. As it turns out "other people" is pretty much just you.

LOL... yeah, I haven't found any other art from this book on Deviant art.
I figured a dude waving around a 'fire wand' was a bit dated... hence the steroid-ized, updated look.
Thanks for the kind words!

This is Lord Agni as would be done to World of Warcraft specifications. I hope that didn't sound insulting. My vision of him was more like the Silver Age suphero look.

I actually do have a rough sketch of the Thunder Chariot here, on the bottom right:
[link]
Not sure if I'll do the armored Ratri, but I've always wanted to color and detail up the rest of Shiva and maybe try my hand at Nirriti and Kubera...
Regarding the Kirby designs, yeah, not sure how they could have translated into cinema, but it sure as hell would have been interesting!

Kirby's massive "clay log" figures necessitated the kind of disproportionately large clothing and accessories that became a hall mark of his style (the exception being Silver Surfer). I saw some storyboarding that had Brahma looking much like cross between Galactus and Eternity.
For myself, I always thought that in terms of voicing, Tom Baker would be perfect as Sam, with Omrish Puri as Yama Dharma, and Monica Belluci as Kali.
I am not sure Zelazny's gender bending would play well with the general Hindu population. Brahma is considered male and Nirritti is female, for instance.

Awesome, thanks! I just read it a few weeks ago as it was recommended by a few sci-fi booksellers in my city, so I had to pick it up and I love it as well. Great to hear some comments from someone who has read the book. I'm working on a few scenes (part of my class work).

Yep, that's one of the greatest sci-fi novels of all time. I checked Kali, can't wait till you fully color it - that is a superb design, this time 100% correlating with my view of the character.
By the way, if you enjoyed the "Lord of Light", I think you'll like another novel of Zelyazny "Creatures of Light and Darkness". It is much alike this novel, the same mix of technofantasy, mythology, horror and cyberpunk, only on a grander scale and somewhat darker. Maybe you'll find even more inspiration for designs and illustrations)

Sweet, it's funny that you mentioned it because that's the other novel recommended by one of the booksellers that mentioned Lord of Light. Kali is almost done, just some rendering work on the weapon arms and tweaking background elements a bit... I kinda like the rough, abstract background, though I did throw in some "ruins", which I envision to be near the gates of Hellwell. She's fighting one of the Rakasha, whom you can kinda see in the current pic.

Great concept, solid and detailed without being too busy.
Gotta love those boots. Can't be a arcane-teched Hindu God Wannabe (no disrespect of course!) without kickass boots.
Nice colours too. I see blue and purple in there and it offsets the big awesome fire gauntlet nicely
