Description TOTAL HOURS: approx. 15.5 hours
TOOLS: Pencil, Acrylic, Tablet, Photoshop

Completed yesterday. An original male character, not much of a story thought up except that essentially he is a wanderer who travels around and accepts "jobs" in various villages. I had a bit of problem trying to get the colors right, probably because my initial plan was to make it bright with a scenery in the back. But then I decided to do something different and this was the result. Background texture was scanned from a small canvas bought a while ago and painted with acrylic.

Great work, JoD and did you know that Japan's greatest swordsman (Miyamoto Musashi) also used two swords? I especially loved the background and think you were smart to use this instead of scenery - it would have detracted too much from the subject character.

I love how you made the dragon-type background "mimic" his stance. The way this painting is colored, it also looks like he's walking the halls in a castle. I guess because of how the shadows are cast and the texture of the background. It looks really good.

Though I think he needs to do Buns of Steel workout so he can gain some booty..

Thanks for the comments! I'm glad you've pointed out the mimic, it was what I was going for . I've made some changes to his butt from other people's suggestions, hopefully it looks like he has one now, haha. Just added minor highlights, but not so much that he looks like he's got a big "booty" and that it still looks like he's wearing a sightly baggy pants !

Wow he looks amazing. I really love the look of his clothes and the varius textures you see in this pic.

I love the background texture with this. I love the way you color, it is very painterly. I agree about the pants, I don't get the twist of the body, maybe if I see some highlights on his butt? I love the movement and the feathers! As Truly says, your work gets better and better.

Thank you, I'm really happy with this one. And as you've suggested, I've edited it and added additional highlights there and even made the belts thinner. Does it look better now? I did try to put brighter highlights there, but it ended up looking really weird, so I just added a light tint with some black lines to get the definition.

all i can do is sit and stare. this is maybe your best work yet (do i say that every time you post?) this one has a feeling of depth to it. like the is floating above the page. love the background and this might seem weird but the little section of what i take to be one of those wife beater tee shirts looks almost real. the whole pic has a 3d feel. the jacket swirl behind him seems serpent like,dragonish (?) ..the background texture ...damn.. all the little details.... i'm gonna stop cause... damn

Thanks, Truly ! I'm really happy with the way this turned out. I've purposely made the jacket swirl, thought it would be more interesting and point out that he might not be "human". And I'm glad you described it as "serpent" because it relates him to the dragon symbol in the background.

Lol, I have been thinking of selling prints for a while. I would want to subscribe though, to get a higher rate percentage in payment. I'll do it someday

the dragon symbol in the background was a cool detail that added a bit of mystery to this pic. details thats i'm beginning to associate with your work
i think you might do well with the prints. this would make a really good one. yeah you're right about the subscription. have you given any more thought to the tee shirt ideal?

Looks pretty awesome, the background goes really well with it. Although, something about the trousers looks a bit ... weird to me. Like shapeless, if you see what I mean. :/

Thanks, and I think know what you mean about the pants... I got a bit lazy there . I've just made a slight adjustment, for now. He's suppose to be wearing the pants a bit low with a long shirt. so when I was sketching it out, there wasn't too much shape. I think it looks a bit better now than before, so thanks for the feedback
