Edward was used to seeing it. He had often been the one to induce such an expression on his daughter's face. But this time, it seemed to linger for longer than usual. Jaqi's features were scrunched up with her famous pout and only with some gentle prodding did Edward coax the reason for it out of his daughter. Apparently Jaqi and her team of clay war soldiers had lost a particularly important battle with the gypsy kids down at the harbour. Edward almost laughed out loud when he discovered it was merely a petty children's play war that was causing Jaqi's sour mood. But he did not. Instead he explained to her that she should learn something out of this, should learn how to accept defeat, to be stronger next time and not to make the same mistakes.

Viktoria, the mother lioness, did the same to his son Furo, who was just as sullen as his human.

'It's not worth it,' they told their children. 'This is no reason to be upset. Chin up. Tomorrow brings a new adventure for you.'
