I keep thinking that Kopa and Mheetu are around the same age. But I also think that it may be possible that Mheetu is younger than Kopa, Nala's mum still in business
Thus in this picture, Nala has told an indignant Kopa to put Mheetu to sleep.Screencaps:

Looking at this picture of Kopa and Nala's little brother, Mheetu, is making me think of the characters of the book 'Ginger Pye', where the uncle is actually a baby when the children own the dog.
Too bad Kopa the main protagonist on 'The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride', when they changed the character to Kiara.

Well it goes many ways. Lions for example, lionesses as old as Sarafina are still able to mate thus why Mheetu is younger than his nephew. For humans sometimes someone will get a divorce while having a kid, get married again, and that kid becomes the uncle to the grandkid.
