Description A lone Pachyrhinosaurus, wandering away from the migrating herd, stops grazing to witness the first rays of sunlight after months of darkness, announcing the arrival of spring. The day will last only for a moment, but it means change for all alaskan creatures.

The mammals know it's time to leave their burrows. The hadrosaurs are coming back with their honking calls. While the little trodoontids and dromeosaurids are starting to build their nests, and the arctic tyrannosaurs are shedding their white coats to match the melting snow, the ankylosaurs are waking up from their hybernation.

For the Pachyrhinosaurs, it's time for some head butting.

Wonderful drawing and description to match, it portrays cretaceous Alaska as the modern day Srengeti or Yellowstone. Never thought wbout hibernating ankylosaurs!

Pachy looks like it really fits into its environment, even if it is a relatively big animal. I love the picture for the perspective in it, mostly, and also for....well....the reason I've given above and the lovely use of shadows. .....I think I should get down to redrawing my Canadian Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai......

And you're welcome

Amazing! I also like how yo added some dino-fuzz on the Pachyrhinosaurus, it too me a second to spot it at first!

Thank you! I'm adding integument to a lot of dinosaurs lately Although I must say I was quite conservative with this one.. living in such northern and cold habitats, it could have been whooly, who knows?

Amazing! How did you do that light effect?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Julio-Lacerda In reply to JWArtwork [2012-02-10 19:02:17 +0000 UTC]

Well, I painted hill in the background in brown and white and added a separate layer to accentuate the shadow and and sunrise colors. As for the dinosaur itself, to save time, I painted it directly with those orangey colors, just paying attention to the light source. I hope this answers your question
