Yep, I'm definitely done with veiltails. Next time I get a betta, I'm waiting for a crowntail or halfmoon, if the store will get them in.

Wow. What a beautiful Betta. 21 Euro is a good price for a Betta of high quality. Are you breeding them?

I have seen a marble colored breeding pair in a aquaristique shop near to me for 50 Euro both halfmoons. They look so gorgeous but they are sadly to expensive for a student like me.
That's cool. I had bettas when I was younger and I tried to breed them too but they came all from normal petshops so the quality of the fishes was really bad. The eggs that the females produced are always deformed and the male (an royalblue) builed a beautiful bubblenest but he's eaten all the eggs instead of putting them into the nest...

Yeah, halfmoons are expencive. They sure are. I have only had one halfmoon male, and he was a gift to me ^^
Im sad to hear that you never sucedeed to breed your bettas. Mine is also bought from a petstore, but that petstore is experts on bettas. My halfmoon who I breed was bought from there and he produced beautiful fry for me together with his mate ^^

It was quite frustrating. I tried everything but it happend every single time...The bettas in our petstores here aren't good for breeding they are more decorative but therefor they are cheap. The most expensive I ever had was 15 Euro because it was a crowntail. I had him together with two females in a 30 l tank with lots of plants. But one day one of the two females started to fight with him and we had to find out that the second "female" was a shorttail male. A really agressive beast and a typical fighter. We seperated them and tried to give the shorttail a female as mate too but he attacted her immediatly in a very brutal way. Perfect for fishfights, a real winner type but impossible to breed or hold in a tank with females. We could save the life of the female and put her together with the other male in the tank.
The only fishes I ever succeded to breed them were my guppies I had before I got my first Betta. I had a beautyful teal and albino lizard male who produced amazing and colorful offsprings with the females I had. But breeding guppies is not really difficult. xD
Did you keep all the bettas you breed or are you selling or just give them away as gifts?

I have went through the same as you, bought a betta in the beliefe that it was a female. Though, it is the store who sometimes makes the misstake. I came home with a whole bunch of new females and when I released them into the tank where I had one crowntail male, on of the "females" attacked the CT. Saddly, my crowntail died before I could help him. It turned out that the "female" was a male plakat. He is in my big tank now, and he is one fiesty thing. AND BIG! xD
Guppies aren't that funny to breed, since they do the entire job themselfs xD
I keep all my bettas. I have only breed two times, one where the fry died young, and then one where 10 females and one male survived ^^

They are really big and so strong and agressive. My "female" was really young when I bought it and live very peaceful together with the male and the other female in the tank for a long time. And than from one day to the other the killer awaked. I think it simply reached sexual maturity after that time. Lucky for my male that I was fast enough. It was impossible to catch that beast with a net so I had to catch it with my hand and even in my hand I swear it tried to bite me. But it lived much longer than my other males. The little nasty goblin. xD
That's true but they are the only fishes that have more or less "real" sex. x'D
10 females and only 1 male. All halfmoons? Must be cool to see how they grow up from egg to adult. If you keep them all you must live in a house full of fishtanks no?

Everytime we go to the store I want to buy a beta because they are truly gorgeous but look so sad in the tiny containers they are put in at our stores. And we already have 5 goldfish.
