No, I never told him. For a number of reasons... none of which would have mattered if I wasn't positive it wouldn't make a difference. There was never a chance for anything to happen between us, it's been a dream since the beginning, and that's what makes me saddest.

I know we all hate that feeling of helplessness -- that must be almost worse than the heartbreak. I wish there was something more I could do than just offer my voice among the others. I think we've all got that person who we look back on and wonder 'what if' for various reasons, and I'm sorry yours have to be so tragic. You deserve love, hon; please never doubt that. And you have ours, cold comfort that it is. I never want you to forget what loving him feels like (because, pain and all, this sounds like something that truly matters and is worth remembering) but I also sincerely hope that one day you'll find someone or something that makes you pause and realize that you haven't thought of him in weeks or months. Saying 'time heals all wounds' sounds so sappy, and it's because we all know that it's only partly true. When something truly hurts, it never really goes all the way away: it just gets moved to the backburner. So, perhaps it's better to say that I hope this fresh sting will quiet down to a dull ache soon. And, if it's not too bold or harsh, I'd like to remind you that he was never your 'other half' -- losing this possible future as not left you incomplete in any way. Though it may not feel like it right now, you are and always have been 'whole'. People act like becoming a couple completes people, but that's not wholly true. It's not two halves coming together like puzzle pieces, but two wholes slamming into each other and making a beautiful mess that forms a new, larger whole. And I think we can all agree that you're a beautiful, wonderful mess all on your own. Perhaps he was the only man for you, or perhaps you'll fall so deeply in love one day that you'll look back on this and laugh at it as an infatuation. Maybe it was destiny, or maybe it wasn't. Maybe (probably) I'm getting melodramatic and weird at this point. I can only tell you this: it's not the end for you. You have so much to offer. Not just as a lover or a partner, but as a person. You are worthy, and important, and we all want you to be happy. And I can tell you one more thing: you *will* be happy. But maybe you'll just have to take my word on that last one.Β
