*SPOILER HEAVY*
Hmmm... she may not have kept her promise, but seriously, has no one among the Snape fans ever been bothered by the fact that, at some point, Severus has embraced an ideology that was targeting everything about his best friend?Β
I get that he was bullied, but it's not an excuse for turning Death Eater, or being fascinated by the Dark Arts. I get that he was in love with Lily, but the reaction to being pushed aside in favour of James would be to join a Death squad intent on killing people like Lily? That's kind of an extreme over-reaction.Β
People keep making Snape this romantic figure... I don't get that.Β
I admit he's more layered than he appears, and he's not evil in the end, but still... he takes out an old school grudge on a dead man's son, who happens to be the son of his only love. He's actually the reason they're dead in the first place, because he ratted them out to Ol' Snake-face.
Also, none of his issues with Lily or James does justify his attitude toward Hermione and Neville. His bullying of a muggleborn is morally reprehensible. His bullying of a pureblood (even a blood traitor) is reprehensible and dumb, and it cannot be excused by the idea that he has to pretend to be a spy for the other side. He's done that even before there was a hint of Ol'Voldy's return. Which makes him a believer in the notions he's pretending to stand for.
I get he's more complex than what he appears, but none of what I have read will ever make Snape a 'good guy' in my eyes. And not all of what he turns out to be can be blamed on James and Lily.Β
Still the art is gorgeous, Julvett.

So somebody agrees with me on him. Some people say he's mean to Neville because if Neville was the Chosen One, Harry wouldn't be, but that's even worse.

Actually that would be worse, because that would be petty. Greasy, unpleasant and petty? Starting to pile up, Sev! π

I bet if he did something with his hair it would look a lot better. And how does he stand it, anyway? If I don't have time to wash my hair in the morning it's greasy all day and it drives me NUTS. It's so gross!

Dear Julvett,
Snape did not stalk Lily. He loved her. This is backed up by the author herself, and Pottermore's explanation of a Patronus--which I realize was updated quite awhile after this was made. But disregarding so, it is unnecessary (and inconsiderate) to ridicule Snape and Lily's relationship when many people enjoy it, and you do not need to degrade Snape to make James or Jily look good. I suggest you take a leaf out of James Potter's book and change for the better.
Sincerely,
GrrHatLet

Well, to be fair he kinda became a jackass to her and started hanging out with all those bigoted purebloods. And then when he realized it, he couldn't do anything about it (don't remember when that was exactly - if he was still in school, or if it was when James and Lily died). So they both broke their promise.
