I think this is fantastic! Just because something's bright and happy doesn't mean it can't be deep and meaningful. I'd love to see a new movie with this mentality! ^u^

I get that you like the classic Happy smiling Superman, but Henry Cavill's take on the character was always meant to be more serious. He does smile here and there during Man of Steel (2013), but in BvS, the criticisms against his "dark" take on the character are straight up stupid. BvS is meant to be dark, therefore fitting perfectly to the realistic and beautifully crafted DCEU/DCU that Zack Snyder created.Β
Anyway, great Artwork, you did Cavill's face perfectly, I usually have trouble with his face in my own artworks.Β

So
1. You can't speak for yourself so instead, you link to YouTube videos of people who can't stand destruction in a fake world
2. I don't know I if I 'haft' (have to) to do anything when for oneself (you) can't even spell correctly their point to get across...Β
3. Please leave this alone, I know the easy thing to do is pick on someone who enjoys so called 'bad' films, but to be honest, it just means I've got a better perspective on things then someone who requires a goddamn review to tell them whats good or not.

Superman and (too much) seriousness just don't go well together.

its becuase audiences (most of them) have become so cynical and jaded. Although I do understand they want it to be realistic so Man of Steel does score points on that. I felt that by the end of the movie Clark hasn't fully become superman. yet. I know people complained about him killing Zod but if you think about it it makes a lot of sense. He was forced to and I bet you this is going to have a major effect on him in the sequal (enter no killing policy here). Batman may challange him about thinking about what justice is and he will become the icon we all know. I want that suit. its so cool.

Just based from the pose and drawing itself, I see it as a great tribute to a Superman who made our hearts the world over glow with his heart-warming smile; none other than Christopher Reeve. The man, virtually an unknown actor, shot into superstardom thanks to his brilliant performance as the Man of Steel. And that smile at the end... If that didn't light you up, you had no soul.
In fact, strangely enough, Man of Steel was the first Superman movie I'd seen without the traditional Earth flyover he usually does. In some way, it kinda left an empty, dark feeling in my heart especially after all the trauma and strife Superman went through: from killing his own race to save humankind, to the troubles he experienced growing up. Would've been nice if he gave something to show that he's always around.
Clearly, from this picture, Henry Cavill can smile, and brightly too. Needless to say, a gorgeous piece of fan art and in a related note, a nice tribute to Christopher Reeve and his classic role as Superman. You've mixed both elements wonderfully and hey, who doesn't love a wonderful drawing of outer space now and again? Supreme effort, buddy... Hope to see more like this.

Well, you stand a good point with the fly over, but, it would seem un realistic for this to happen in MoS. MoS took a realistic look, a look like, what if there was a Superman in our world? and let's just say this EXACT scene took place after MoS, with the same smile and every thing, this look says, "Welp, good luck with the cleaning guys,". XD. It's a great pic, it really is, but you couldn't see this at the end of MoS, but hey, that's why they call it fan art.
Β
And you're right, he did kill his own kind, so he needs to recuperate from that, because that truly was a hard decision for him to make. AndΒ would you be like this after you killed another person? I mean, this could have happened sometime during the movie, like when he started to fly in the snow lands, but you know, this is my opinion, and I had to say this

A very valid point, dude. After all the mess he caused with General Zod and how he probably traumatised someone by breaking Zod's neck (not to mention that primal, ear-splitting scream), to have him smile at the end would be pretty much a super dick move. "Actually, the symbol on my chest means I'm a godly asshole. I only said hope to sucker you gullible losers in. "
That said, lots of people were already dying or being torn to shreds thanks to the terra-forming already done by General Zod on his part, and chances are there was going to be no easy way to subdue Zod without causing collateral damage. I'm sure he aimed to cause as much damage as possible, to create a constant test for Superman asking "How much do you REALLY love these people, Kal-el?" "Over our own race?"
Definitely, nobody is typically forced to make a life or death situation between Kryptonians and human beings (or at least all of Metropolis anyway), but who could blame him for choosing humans? As powerful and godly as Kryptonians are, they were all born to fulfil a destined role in Krypton's structure. It's like some kind of production line of alien births. Humans, all seven billion of us, have the ability to make our own choices and live by the consequences. And Superman himself could lead them towards a future to strive for. There'll be hiccups and issues, definitely, but in time... The world would grow to be greater.
I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion, even though I was born to just love Christopher Reeve's classic smile, since you've really enlightened me in that respect. Great thought, and all the best.

wow! a great and a long comment hahaha! yeah, you right, in Man of Steel, Superman seems to be very pay less attention to the safety of many people, and he doesn't care to the damage he has made, he has no compassion.Β Superman is a man who always sacrifice for others, but not in this movie hahaha.. in this movie he is just a man who love to fight.

well, I just need to point out a couple things, one, he was Superman for really only a day, so he's very new to all this, two, he didn't do that damage, Zod did. Clark didn't want to fight in the city, Zod forced him too, and even if Clark wanted to save people, Zod wasn't prepared to take a tea break so Supes could save someone. I mean, he was fighting someone his own strength, so Zod didn't give Superman anytime what so ever

JUNAIDI In reply to BigTalon256 [2013-07-27 04:00:20 +0000 UTC]
i know zod did the damage, but did superman care what zod has done? superman didn't even care if someone squashed in among the ruins of buildings, he never looked at around him when he fought with zod, he didn't even look sad when zod killed hundreds or thousands people with that gravity machine. The city was just like a fighting arena for Superman. I admit that i like Man of Steel movie, i really like the concept and fighting effect. But somehow something is losing in Superman character, that's my opinion.

he did care, but it's not like he could do anything during the fight, and Superman over the time he was growing up learned to sometimes keep his emotions locked up, not all the time, but when he was bullied. And since he was a symbol of hope for the human race, he had to keep a strong face on

AussieDidge In reply to JUNAIDI [2013-07-16 07:10:03 +0000 UTC]
Couldn't have said it better myself... It seems for a good half an hour at least the movie was nothing but two super-powered Kryptonians duking it out with human lives on the line, and it only stopped when Superman broke Zod's neck, which kinda makes you think: "Wait a minute, you're telling me we had to go through all of that for such an anti-climactic finish to the battle?"
It might've been the armoured costume and the principles he encountered while he was growing up; maybe he just didn't appreciate being outcasted so much that he only saw humans as a race needing to be protected, rather than something far greater. He knew he had such a responsibility to begin with; he just didn't come to terms with how thankless it seemed to be.
I don't know; having been raised on the classic movies that had the perfect balance of light-hearted humour and serious issues... This one just wasn't as good. Another one struck by the contagious CGI disease it seems.

On its own merits, Man of Steel IS a good movie, seeing most people really love the action aspect of it. But I certainly don't think Superman bothered to uphold his "protect the people" credo. Maybe the line of thought was, well, we've already lost so many lives thanks to that gravity accelerator, perhaps I have little choice now.
And you've said it mate, Christopher Reeve will always be the best Superman, John Williams will always be the best composer for Superman... Hands down.
