Well, in Wreck-it Ralph, the characters say that when they die in games other than theirs, they'll be dead forever, but if they die in their own game, they regenerate. So, when you shut down the game, there is a 100% chance of Berri coming back to life.
Even some Conker's Bad Fur Day characters knew they were in a game, and some even broke the fourth wall.
