this is fucking really good man, im suprised people havent payed more attention. Realize that most DA'ers are people looking for a flashy pinup, but i read alot of comics, and this is pro in my books.

You draw really good hands and faces, you seem to have a pretty good grasp on details and 'phrasing'... this page is catchy, even at a distance...

what kind of feedback are you getting from the artists and editors? are the critiques helpful?

jusdog In reply to rawREN [2006-12-23 04:46:30 +0000 UTC]
sorry for the late reply...umm..not so good critiques. Jim (lee) loved them, but they never got back to me. At this stage, you really don't get too many helpful critiques from editors. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever got a good critque from an editor, LOL;} at least not to my face. I've gotten a good letter from Marvel before, but that was it.
I'm good friends with Keron Grant (kerongrant.net), and Sanford Greene, as well as a couple other pros. Those guys give the best critiques. They give it to you straight. They don't hold punches. They've helped a lot. Both of the brothers also draw. Chris (Kweli.deviantart.com), my younger brother is also really tough on me, that helps.
and now, I've embarrased myself by talking too much! sorry.

Don't worry about rambling on, this is interesting stuff. I didn't realize 'Kweli' was your brother, I watch his deviant account too ~ that's cool you guys can motivate and critique one another. I actually talked one of my professors into doing an independent study class with me that involved comic book/graphic novel art but he really didn't know very much about the medium. In a way, it was good because he could simply critique my technique and the clarity of my panels ~ and being a non comic book reader, his perspective was pretty raw and honest. In any case, don't ever quit drawing, you have a lot of talent.

thanks for the advice, I've been drawing for a little while (about 20 years now!), I don't think I'm gonna stop any time soon;} As for school, that was the best thing you could've ever done. It's always good to get some outside critics. My wife and mother are the best at it. They'll look at my page, and see what's wrong with it, and it only takes them about 2 seconds to spot it! so, good job.

i know what you mean, i'm in my 30s and my wife is one of my biggest fans and is my best critic... sometimes i think our best chances for publication are actually to be SELF published and THEN picked up... really, i'm much more interested in telling the stories i want to tell, rather than have the publisher or editor dictate my diversions... this is why i am getting my degree, so that i can take a firmer control over my destiny in graphic noveling... it's not essential, of course, but for me, it helps me to be and become a better artist... anyway, it is encouraging to see guys like you on the same path, and that's what i really mean when i say keep it up... have a happy holiday jus and keep in touch!

Youhave soooooo much skill. I don'tunderstand why you aren't already doing comics. It seems like these contests should be a moot point. I think you would be an obvious choice!

The perspective here is wonderful, especially in the bottom panel! The movement is good there as is the line work. Great drawing.
