Description
In through the crystal doors, a worried and rushed Princess Athena came in. She had went straight to Gardenia, ignoring the maids and guards that tried to give her their respect.
"I came as soon as I got the letter. Are you ok??" Athena reached towards Gardenia, looking her over. To which Gardenia responded with a half hearted laugh.
"I'm fine, I'm fine Athena. Really I am. I had an unexpected savior that night." Gardenia gently pushed her frantic hooves away.
"Savior?" Athena titled her head, "Tell me about that later, is it really Pearlie?"
Gardenia began to walk to the dungeons, "I have no idea, I know of your friend but I've never met her remember?"
"Right..." Athena looked around, going up to the guarded cell as soon as they were in view. "Pearlie? Pearl, it's me Athena. Are you ok?"
The siren ears perked at her voice and she turned her head towards Athena but said nothing.
"Pearlie, it is you. Come here, let me see you." Athena put a hoof on the bars.
"You sound like her.. but you are not." Pearlie lowered her head again.
"I am, I know I don't seem like I usually am but it is me, your dear friend Athena." Athena looked back at Gardenia, who got the hint. Gardenia ordered the guards to take a break and leave them be for a while. Once they left, Athena changed back into her natural hybrid self.
"Pearlie look at me now, you believe me now?" Athena turned back once more. After a few moments Pearlie moved over to the bars, her nose sticking out between them.
"Athena.. Athena, what are you doing here?" Pearlie asked, suddenly feeling more safe and yet concerned.
"I should be asking you that. Why have I gotten a letter from my cousin than a siren had come to assassinate her?" Athena sat in front of the door, looking into Pearlie's clear eyes. Pearlie was quiet, her ears flicked.
"Your... what?"
"My cousin, Pearlie! Gardenia, Empress Gardenia! She's my cousin, my mother and her father were siblings." Athena watched as Pearlie lowered her head and began apologizing.
"I didn't know, oh my. Athena I'm so sorry, I didn't know. I- i was just given an assignment-"
"Assignment? From who? Who told you to do this?" Athena leaned closer and tried to keep her voice down, "Pearlie you have to tell me, I can't help you if you don't." But Pearlie shook her head.
"I can't say, Athena you know this. Assignments are classified, I didn't see them anyways i- oh my pearls your cousin..." Pearlie was so scared now, she would've never taken the assignment if she knew it was her best friend's cousin. Athena always talked highly of her cousins, sure this was Pearlie's job but she would never have done it to her family.
"Hey, hey" Athena reached through raising Pearlie's head to face her, "It's ok, I'm not going to leave you in here. I'm going to help you, ok?"
"But I did it, I attempted to at least, what if I succeeded? Would you still help me?" Pearlie's eyes showed regret and even a bit of panic, and Athena didn't know how to answer. Even if Athena could forgive her friend for succeeding, would she have the power to stop Flurry and Shining from taking action?
"I..I would still try... even if I couldn't help you I'd still try." Athena finally said, sounding unsure in herself. "We don't need to talk of what if's though, we need to figure out who set you up for this so we can get you out of here."
Pearlie nodded, "But how? I can't see them."
"But you can sense them other ways, like how you can tell it's not me in my disguise. It'll be the same way."
"I've only met them once, Athena. I don't think it'll work."
"Well we have to try because I cant guarantee I can protect you from the empire's law otherwise."

In the neighboring kingdom, a letter was brought to King Sombra. King Sombra had just called Nina in to speak of what they should do next. As Sombra read the letter, he stopped and let out a hearty laugh.
"What is it, father?" Nina asked.
"It seems everything was going according to plan, though we had a small hiccup." He showed the letter to her, a summon from Empress Gardenia for one of their audience. "The siren failed, that's to be expected, it was young."
"What will you do now, father?" Nina moved the letter over a fire and it burned.
"Well my dear, I don't know about you but I'd love to see our handy work in the empire so far. This is not an opportunity lost, if anything I had planned for this."
"But why father? If they're suspicious of you won't it make it harder for the rest of your plan?" Nina was confused as her father grinned.
"That's were you and your little prince come in handy, you've been getting closer haven't you?" Sombra raised an expectant eyebrow at her to which she looked away and nodded.
"We haven't met lately, only letters... but yes I believe we've gotten closer." She replied reluctantly.
"Good. You will go to the summon then. Use that prince to your advantage, make him believe you and they'll most likely begin an investigation to find the true culprit. Your prince will never suspect his little lover is using him and they won't suspect us anymore." Sombra told her, continuing with his grin. He noticed how Nina wouldn't meet his eye and her ears folded back. "You're hesitant, my dear. Why?"
"I.. i don't think it's a good idea for me to go alone.." Nina quickly thought something up, "What if I can't convince Shining or Gardenia doesn't listen to him? What if that siren claims its me?" She rattled on.
"Ah I see." Sombra stood up and walked over to her. Nina froze worried he saw through the lie. "You're nervous, my dear be confident. That prince can't resist you and this Gardenia has to listen to her brother as she lacks too much confidence to have a say with something like this by herself. You will be fine, you will do as you need and make me proud. Won't you?"
Nina forced a smile and nodded, "Of course father, I promise to do my best."
"And your best is all I ask." Sombra sat on his throne, "Now get ready to head to the Crystal Empire."
"Yes father," Nina bowed to him and walked out, she headed straight to her room. Once the door was closed she fell to the ground, she had to lie to Shining now. She will have to face him and lie so so much, it felt wrong. But she was more afraid of failing her father that she just shook her head and began packing, though her heart felt so heavy. Part of her was glad the attempt failed, yet disappointed as it made her father's plan more difficult. Oh what a storm is to come.

"Princess Flurry Heart, Prince Shining JR, I suppose I bid you a farewell." Daniel came waltzing into the room where they sat and ate their lunch.
"Oh? Something tells me that meeting went well?" Shining offered Daniel a cookie, which he happily accepted.
"Indeed, the council agreed so mother has to approve it. Therefore, you can head home and prepare." Daniel smiled.
"When will you and your search party come?" Flurry asked with perked ears.
"In a month's time, we have to prepare the soldiers as well as pack for however long we'll be there searching." Daniel patted her head.
"How long can you search? I'm sure they gave you a time limit?" Shining asked. Daniel shrugged in response.
"They didn't come to an agreement for that, they said it depends. I just have to report progress reports and they'll decide our time from there."
Shining nodded, "That's reasonable. Well Flurry, let's get to packing we should head home and tell Gardenia the good news."
"And prepare our own search party" She added.
"Of course," Shining chuckled, "Thanks again for the help Daniel."
"Like I said, it's no problem to me junior. Happy to help." Daniel looked at Flurry "I look forward to working with you soon, but little flur remember that this will be serious business, ok? You gotta be reasonable with everyone, no fights, no sass, no whining."
Flurry nodded, "I know, I know. I'll be good, don't worry about it" She smiled at him. She walked away and whispered under her breathe. Daniel heard and beamed.
"Aww she thinks your cool." Shining teased.
"Probably the only one who does," Daniel seemed to take it to heart, he seemed just so happy to hear that little comment. Shining nudged him.
"I don't care what others say, we think you're cool and would be a great king." Shining smiled at him, "We owe you one now, don't hesitate to ask for our help."
"Got it, junior." Daniel chuckled as he left to let Shining pack.

Another day another dollar. Lol sorry it took me a hot minute, didn't have a drawing pen for like a week. Anyhow here's the next part of our story
