Lyle's father's name was Joshua. He was a very kind man who found his mother, Chelsea, in an alleyway, homeless and scared in the big city he worked in. She had just escaped an abusive relationship.

She was only 20 when Lyle was born, while Joshua was around 25 and already quite successful. They never married before Joshua's death, but what they had was very special to both of them. When Chelsea found out that Joshua had died at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, she was enraged and devastated. She vowed to never love anyone else again and bring her boyfriend's killer to justice. She became a police officer, and eventually faced her abuser again, arresting him, and having him sentenced to life in prison for murder.

Life as a single, first-time mother was very difficult for Chelsea. Lyle would always ask when his daddy was coming home, which reminded her that, every day, he wasn't coming home.

Shortly after Lyle entered high school, she fell very ill, due to stress, grief, and not taking care of her health in general. She resigned from her police position and tried to get well again. Her medical bills ran very high, now that they had no insurance. Lyle took it upon himself to start working and paying for his mother's medical expenses.
