Hmmm it's been more than two years now.
Well, i liked drawing almost my entire life, but i started to paint a little bit more seriously when i joined DA.

Nothing special really, i just know how it should look like and then just paint using default brushes and few layers...

Yep, it is geologically active. And the reason is that giant Jupiter like planet which this moon circles.
Planets tidal forces causes slight deformation of moons globe that produces huge amount of heat and energy which drives these huge volcanic eruptions.
Good example of this kind of activity in the solar system is Jupiter's moon Io and Saturn's moon Enceladus...
