With the title of deep water, you can definitely imagine the image taking place under the surface
with the way the hair flows and the scale like dress she's wearing
together with the harmonious pale blue palette, its a great effect haha

Adore the colour palette, also the hair, plus her captivating eyes. Great piece!

I love your style so much. Everything you do has a separate uniqueness to them. I still have the one commission you did for me 5 years ago. Every sketch you sent me. And seeing how you still have this talent is amazing. Always looking forward to see more from you~!

There are so many positive comments, I kinda don't want to give my own critique, especially since I'm not an artist. I mostly like this piece but there are a couple things that stop me from loving it.
Would you mind a bit of constructive criticism?

Okay, almost all of the individual pieces are amazing. The face, the hair, the hand... But put together they don't look right. The neck looks like it's connecting directly to the left shoulder. I mean, the hair should look like it's covering up the left shoulder and arm but instead it looks like they just don't exist.Β This also makes it look like there's too much space between the right shoulder and where the neck should be.Β
The root cause of all of this seems to be the positioning of the bust. When you cover up the bust the rest of it suddenly fits in place and it looks amazing. However, the bust just looks off. I kind of looks like it's at a different angle to the rest of the body we see, if that makes any sense. That throws everything out of whack and causes the above mentioned neck/shoulder issues.

I know what you mean, that was a thing I struggled with for some time and then, to be honest, just decided to stop fiddling once it started to seem that the issue wasn't getting any closer to being resolved. :/
In the beginning the bust was waaaay over somewhere where it shouldn't be, I managed to make it look somewhat better but I agree it's still not quite right. I have a bad habit of abandoning a piece for years if it seems to not go in the right direction and starts to frustrate me too much (thinking that the solution lies in the future once I've gotten better), with this one I just wanted to call it done as it had enough positive things about it to counter the negatives - so in other words it got to the point where was willing to live with the wonkyness of this lady.

Β I really like the colors and the whole mood of the painting ! The hair is very well done.
In my opinion, hair is one of the most dificult things to paint.

Finishing a piece is, a lot of the time for me, the hardest hurdle as well, I try to sit at my art desk until it's done! No Surrender!!!
It's a gorgeousΒ piece, I hope it becomes easier for you. (Never easy, but easier.)

Yep, someone once said that the last 10% of the work (aka detailing and refining) takes up 80% of the time or something like that, I agree with the thought as it seems like sketching and laying down basecolors can be sooo much faster than the last bit of making the piece look all neat.

Haha, I do the same thing with pieces! I just don't have the attention span XD but this is totally worth it. Absolutely love it.Β
