Yep, they released it on DVD about... six years ago? They're crazy expensive online nowadays, but if you keep your eye out at secondhand stores or flee markets/swapmeets you might just get lucky!

eBay would also be a good place to look, sure. The toys these days are hard to find and expensive. You might be able to find the Transmetal versions most easily but don't be too picky about Dinobot. Good luck, though.
I really, really recommend not putting yourself into your fanfics. People have been doing that since the dawn of fanfiction and it never turns out well. In fact, people kinda hate those types of stories. Anyway that's the best advice I can give you.

What do I think of the name, or the character? Either way, I thought he and the name were amongst the worst of all the human characters in Transformerdom, ever.

Hmm, well. I would say you should start out with your character's backstory and personality first. Usually when I design my characters the name is the last thing I give it.

Okay, first thing is first: paragraphs. You need to sort your ideas and group them together into separate paragraphs. Huge walls of text like that are not fun for anyone to read.
Second, I see a lot of fantastic things happening to this character, but no explanation why. Why do the Decepticons attack him? Why is he the only one who can awaken Ultra Magnus? Why is he so special? Beware creating a Mary Sue . They can be male, too.
Hate to break it to you but "special" cybernetic arms and prophesied destines are cliche plot devices too. We've seen every variation of those in fanfics already.
As for drawing, right now I'm struggling just to draw a friend's character's head. I can't really drawl my talents lie in writing and photography.

XD I love these scenes. Poor Dinobot always looks like such a dork cramming himself on top of Rattrap, and I'm really surprised the rat can handle the raptor's weight.

Oh don't get me started on that. Even if I wasn't against slash, romance has become cheapened by so much of it being forced onto characters. The "frenemies" dynamics is just so much more interesting.

It's difficult enough to find a halfway decent romance in anything, especially Transformers. I'll admit I slash left and right, but honestly, I just do it for fun. These two I'm a bit more swayed by, but, that's probably just because they have a very well-done story arc. And I've been meandering around my own personal views of the show so long that it just stuck. Robromance? *lame*
As far as confirmed romance goes, I think the only one they really got right was Bolt 'n Arachnia.

Well see, that's the thing. I can see reading a pairing into characters who lack fleshed-out stories. But Dinobot and Rattrap had such a well-defined, clear-cut arc. You can't improve upon perfection.
Tigatron and Airazors' relationship suffered from the fact that the characters themselves weren't fleshed out enough. The time spent on their budding relationship was done correctly. But then, I'm just a sucker for the "modest girl" personality type and the "at-first-unrequited love" stories.

Aaah, but that's the fun of it. Not just slash, really, though that's the the most popular medium. It's a mix of that immature part of the brain that giggles whenever, say, a fangirl watches the "Starscream glomps Megatron" scene from G1, and occasionally that part that actually sees at least the potential for a halfway decent story. Dinobot and Rattrap to me just had such an interesting story, I had to dig in further. The Dinobot II arc and Dark Glass are especially interesting. In all honesty, I don't see myself as changing them--it's just how I personally look at them.
But, I digress. To each their own, am I right? However you look at it, those two have some hilarious interactions.
Yeah, it seems they rather skimmed over Tigatron and Airazor. I still love that pairing, it's quite adorable--albeit a bit, err--tragic. The Tigerhawk arc added an interesting dimension to them, at least. Tragic, and messed up, buuuut--interesting.

I guess the gender barrier is too great to overcome in this instance. While I do like romance in stories, I think they should be used sparingly for maximum impact. With the way our media is, romance has become diluted and cheapened.
Notice, though, that aside from the aborted Dark Glass they never really showed Rattrap's thoughts on the Dinobot clone. I don't Dinobot 2's existence really impacted him either way, since it wasn't really Dinobot. Their arc was over, finished (to borrow a Furmanism) after Code of Hero.

Paradox-OS In reply to JZLobo [2010-01-26 06:54:28 +0000 UTC]
I really don't understand the gender barrier, I doubt I ever will. To me gender has always been irrelevant, I'm just a sucker for a great story. Maybe it's another part of the brain wanting to see more than just the typical boy-meets-girl story in media. Nothin' wrong with a little boy-meets-boy or girl-meets-girl.
I never got that, honestly. Whichever way you slice it, those two cared for each other on some level. Best friends, romance, mutual respect, whatever it was, it was certainly there. Rattrap's desperation in Dark Glass definitely proved that the presence of Dinobot II was bothering him. I mean, think about it--your best buddy dies, then just as you're making peace, your worst enemy makes a shell of a clone that wants your ass dead. That's just harsh.

Well, I do think mens' and women's brains are wired differently. It's science!
I never really got that DInobot and Rattrap were best friends. Certainly they developped a mutual respect for each other that they traded with verbal banter, and they were probably the ones who could elicit the strongest emotional (not romantic, because emotion =/= romance) reactions out of to each other, but best friends? I dunno about that. I think Dinobot had a greater respect for Optimus. And Rattrap even stated a couple times that Rhinox was his best friend.
And while Rattrap was definitely willing to go to extremes to get DInobot back, who's to say that he wouldn't have done the same if it had been Cheetor or Rhinox who had been killed then cloned?

Paradox-OS In reply to JZLobo [2010-01-26 07:05:02 +0000 UTC]
Ain't that the truth.
Poor choice of words on my part, perhaps? Certainly good friends at least. Enough that it brought on an otherwise uncharacteristic bout of desperation from Rattrap in Dark Glass--which, due to events in Nemesis, I firmly believe as a canon, albeit off-camera event.
That's true--the episode seemed to serve to show that Rattrap was prone to weakness. I would have thought that, were it Cheetor, it would have gotten more of a reaction from Primal. Rhinox probably could have gotten a powerful reaction from Rattrap, being his oldest friend and all.

JZLobo In reply to Paradox-OS [2010-01-26 20:56:18 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I think most people count Dark Glass as canon, since the final episode acted as if it happened even if it didn't get produced.
I do think the episode was meant to establish Rattrap's weakness, yes, and cement the fact that even if he hated Dinobot, he also respected him and would get him back if the opportunity arose. But that doesn't imply any bond more special than what he had with other friends of his.
