Description ... if I remember correctly.

Say hello to Entei, everybody! He's not for sale-- he's a present for my sister.

He was pretty fun to make.

-----

This creation was made with a type of crafting called needle felting. Basically what happens is I take a bunch of loose (i.e. roving) wool and jab it with a needle (many, many times). The wool bonds to itself, slowly getting firmer and firmer. Eventually, it's firm enough to stand by itself in a sculpture-like way. By adding more roving wool, I can sculpt a creature or a person or whatever out of the wool.

Needlefelting is a relatively new craft, having only been invented 30 years or so ago. It's similar to the process of wet felting, but instead of using water, needles are used.

My needlefelt creations almost always include a wire base, so they are extremely posable, and I find the freedom of sculpting and the resulting plushness to be everything I could have asked for in a medium.

I happily take commissions, and my prices range from 10 to 100 USD, depending on the size and complexity.

How do you not brake a needle with wire framing? I'm too scared to try the framing because it's hard to find new needles in my area

You be really careful? Honestly, the needles are so cheap, I just don't care. Usually, I break about one for every two hours I needlefelt... wire or no wire.

But if you get a wire gauge larger (in size, not by number) than 20, then expect to break more, especially if you're working really close to the wire. Smaller gauges tend to give more easily, but after 20 the needle tends to break more.

Also, it's better to use larger size needles if you're using wires. 40's will break like there's no tomorrow against wire-- I usually use a 38 triangle, just because it's a good medium point and not as expensive as the 38 star, and doesn't make a hole too large like the 36's will.

And you should buy online. In bulk. I have 50 or so needles extra most of the time, and they're a ton cheaper if you order a lot at once-- my local needlefelting store seels them for 70 cents apiece, but online in a pack of fifty they're only 50 or 40 cents apiece.

Be prepared to invest if you don't live close to a needlefelting store and you plan on continuing. It's way too expensive otherwise.

It really depends on the size. This guy, he's roughly 5-6 inches tall, and he'd cost about $40.

I can go bigger, I can go smaller, and honestly, I'd absolutely love the excuse to needlefelt another pokemon.

Mmmrgh, well, right now, I really want some arts of my feathersona... but I have no reference posted. DX And I'm insanely beyond busy dealing with life right now.

Gaah. Well, I'm working on some art of her right now, so I'll see if I can finish that up. Or... you know. Something ref-like.

So long as I've got your promise, I can go ahead and start working on a needlefelt guy for you. What do you want?
