Holy crap!
If that was real, the engines would be useless against the recoil of those guns!
Overkill is awesome.

In space this thing wouldn't be affected by the recoil at all. Even in an atmosphere the recoil wouldn't affect the ship much. At least for the beam weapons. The weapons that use the solid ammunition wouldn't produce enough recoil to put heavy strain against the engines.

Don't worry about it. The description is old, plus I've got plans to redo the ship anyway. Hopefully I can get a good grasp on the size and weapons to provide a better description and hopefully it will seem more believable.

If this ship designed worked, I can only see a very select few sci-fi originals that could stand up against it head on. Namely, the warships from Battlefleet Gothic (Warhammer 40,000) come to mind. Even in broadside fighting, those turrets are extremely omnious.
However, these ships pack several meters of adamantium armor (6x harder than diamond) and range from 3-8 kilometers in length (1.5-5 miles), with powerful void shields (high-impact shields) that are designed to take multiple laser strikes equal to the firepower of Endor's Deathstar.
Nova cannons (about least 2 miles in length) require full throttle to keep the ship from flying back out of the combat zone, with amazing range and capable of launching a projectile to nearly the speed of light (sublight speeds are too too slow to dodge! Lance weaponry rivals that of Endor's Deathstar (and we're talking multiple cannons). Torpedoes powered by plasma reactive drives can lightly track targets upwards to 600 miles. I haven't even gotten to the 180-foot wide broadside guns lining these beasties.
There are even the smaller and fast escorts that range from 800 feet to 1.5 miles... and in an epic battle, there are not dozens, but hundreds of them, each capable of ramming a Star Destroyer.
While I doubt the Vampire is capable of taking on a full-sized patrol, it could do some very serious damage, and that alone impresses me. However, this monstrosity is, you said, 10 miles? I do see problems with your designs:
1. What's that crew capacity again?
Do you know how far 10 miles is? I'll give you a good comparision: That's about the distance from the center of Dallas to the center of Ft. Worth. Look on a map of an area you're familiar with and check distances. You have a cannon that spans the length of Dallas! The population is over 1 million.
Your ship takes, 800 crew? That has to include engineers, cooks, suppliers, transportation experts, general repairmen, system regulators, security, psychologists, doctors (surgeons, nurses, and all the necessary medical supplies, and probably more than one hospital), grun workers (cleaners, servers), profilers (to keep everyone in check), a massive chain of command equal to a metroplex's city counsel, neighborhood counsels, and all the governmental workers therein, and you would need docking bays for cargo shipping thousands of tons of supplies every day (because I don't know where your storage is), and etc.
To run, without stopping, at a very fast 10 mph, it would take him an hour to run from one end of the ship to the other. Only supreme marathon runners are capable of doing that.
2. Massive guns, 500 pilots?
You mean to tell me that in addition to having the energy, food, water, and supply storage compartments, housing, etc., you have a fully operational air force base in there? And the other 200 random people are drill personel, maintain the fighters and prepare them, etc.? Did you know that the crew capacity for the US Yorktown (WWII), was 3,000? And even those men had a main job, a minor job, and more when necessary. This ship was 872 feet long. Bear in mind, the Dracula is 60 times longer.
3. Your rear is open ended.
Where is your engine? Even if the ship had no thrusters, you need to power it somehow (and powering those guns is going to take a lot of energy). Whether you're shooting energy, particles, missiles, or other projectiles, you need a loading mechanism and a place to store them.
I'm just in a critical state of mind about ship designs at the moment. Browsing several dozens of ships I thought yours looked pretty interesting.

Well if it were real I'm sure I could help you out there. But a ship as big as this thing would be would cause a heck of a lot of commotion. Of course the US military couldn't stop.

Well I wouldn't doubt that there is problem is that we don't have the technology to go across the galaxy in a reasonable amount of time to find out.

Depends on what they consider annoying. I have an annoying friend but it's more because he keeps texting me every moment of the day wondering what's up. Then he rambles on about something I don't even want to hear. When you get that everyday then it gets annoying. Plus he's been doing this for like two years.

It pisses me off too, but my parents know his parents and all the rest of my friends don't want to talk to him. So the rest of my friends have given me the task to talk to him so he doesn't go crazy with no one to talk to. What scares me though is the fact that if I don't talk to him he says he gets worried about me. Plus he started calling me buddy about a month ago. None of my friends and I refer to each other as buddy. So now we all think he's gay.

Thanks, I'm always looking into different designs for my cannons. I just don't want to put cylinders on a box and call it a cannon.

... if the hangar are directly under the beam cannons, wouldn't they overheat and melt everything in it? (molten slag melting, not the generic ice-cube shit)

K1092000 In reply to hell-by-poo [2006-11-08 05:32:58 +0000 UTC]
No, the metal is way too thick for the energy to burn through. You're talking the bottom of the barrel along with the upper part of the hangar bay. Cannons that big are made to take high ammounts of heat. Plus these things don't just fire like a machine gun. That would overload the generators resulting in the destruction of the entire ship.
