Realism wasn't the goal, but I wonder how this would look with a few weak force fields attached to the fan blades and affecting the fire/smoke particles.

It looks really good. Excellent simulation.

no prob. I have been working with blender for a couple months now, and I was just looking around for some inspiring art and yours caught my eye.

Refreshingly smooth! Cool job adding the fan, I suppose as a wind element to disperse particles? Anywhoo, great job.

It's funny you say that about realism. Before I read that, I thought, "this doesn't look exactly like fire, but it _feels_ like fire." It's an effective artistic rendition of fire in 3D. I don't often get the sense of the artist's perspective and impressions in 3D work that's this realistic. Kudos!

Thanks! I think volumetrics will be added to cycles in Blender 2.69.

I'd use the smoke simulator to simulate hair blowing in wind....

Why do you need a smoke sim for hair?

This will give you a very faint and pallid idea of the kind of action needed.

Because I need the hair to move in a much more spectacular manner than what one usually sees. I was startled to see your animation, because it looks so much like the imagery I have in my head. I thought I was going to have to invent a way to make the hair move that way, and I still may do something along those lines, but this will serve as a ready shortcut.
The animation I have in mind is something to go with Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries", [link] so the action has to live up to the music...
