Description having a spartan outfit is awesome. After the first run I repaired some parts and did some minor adjustments. I probably gonna make a new belt cos this one hasn't got a tight fit.

I glued foam on a long sleeve t-shirt and then applied rubber-latex mixed with black acrylic paint on to it. The neck piece is foam and again the latex/paint mix. I don't recommend doing it this way, because the t-shirt became a big piece of rubber which doesn't breath at all and you'll sweat within 5 min of wearing it. It's also a hell to put on.

I've just used an old air force flightsuit. Thanks! I've just been trying to find different ways of doing this.

Are you ever going to make a tutorial or a video of you making this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kaaskop In reply to ReiKainaric [2010-10-29 10:43:33 +0000 UTC]

not of this, I'm in the progress of making a sort of tutorial on how I make armor, but I haven't been working on it for a while now, because the armor where it's based on hasn't had progress. I'm redesigning a lot of the design and thinking on how to make it.

What do you cover the cardboard with to make it solid?

in this case; resin used when making polyester.

Can you explain that more, I'm new at this armor making.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kaaskop In reply to ReiKainaric [2010-09-25 10:03:58 +0000 UTC]

Resin is a 2 compound chemical. you got a main fluid and you mix this with a hardener, when mixed these two will chemically react to each other and will create a solid mass. Normally after it's mixed it's quickly applied to fibreglass mattes, because it is only fluid for a couple of minutes. These mattes in combination with the resin is called polyester, but often called fibreglass too.

Keep in mind that the resin is very hazardous material and requires a gas mask and chemical resistant gloves to work with. The fumes smell really bad, so working outside is advised.

thanks ^^
the easiest way to make one is using "pepakura", it's a paper folding program, with this you can print sheets out and fold them. After you made it out of thick paper, you use fibre glass to strengthen it from the inside and after that use a car body filler like bondo to smooth out the surfaces. If you google the 405th you get to a forum which should answer many questions on how to build one. I hope that helps!

Wow oO How stable is it? Doesn't it get bumps easily because of the paper?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kaaskop In reply to derBene [2009-11-06 08:25:27 +0000 UTC]

first of all, it's 1mm cardboard, so it's pretty solid on it's own. The whole thing is coated on the outside with resin and at some part car body filler last but not least the whole thing is fibre glassed on the inside, so it's super strong.

Just wondering~ Out of all the colors a spartan can be, you picked blue; Any reason (or is it someones favorite color?)

kaaskop In reply to magicswordz [2009-09-28 10:41:16 +0000 UTC]

It's one of the most standard multiplayer colors, red or blue.
Not to sure why that color ^^

Hey - really nice work! Looks excellent.

How 'mobile' is the suit? Do you have a good free range of movement or are you quite restricted?

Looks great!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kaaskop In reply to NiallCampbell [2009-09-25 12:28:09 +0000 UTC]

it's pretty mobile, of course you movement is a bit restricted. I can sit down in it, not to deep though, I can bend my leg to 90 degree. I can't put on my boots without help, that's a bit of a problem. there is some armour collision sometimes, the movement range displayed in the video game is totally unrealistic, if you pay attention you can see the armour going through each other.
At least it's a lot more comfortable than the space marine costumes.
