Description A commissioned mock WWII recruitment poster, featuring Abe the squirrel, who is copyright his player. The poster is based on an actual WWII era poster, visible here: [link]

This was a lot of fun for me, because it is a very different graphic style, and it was fun to try to draw the character in the style of the time.

Note also that the signature is dated '43 instead of '07 ^.^ Just for fun.

Done with ink, acrylics and watercolors on 9"x12" illustration board.

Great picture, looks like she fought in both the European andthe Pacific theatres.

I've always loved the old propoganda posters, and anthros.

I really like this piece of artwork, it's very creative and detailed...but I've got one question...now granted I'm not an expert on WWII planes, but...it says U.S. army...then why is there a Nazi and Japanese flag on the side of the plane?

Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun! (Give 'er the gun!)*
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one helluva roar!**
We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

I like this drawing mainly because of the historical accuracy you portrayed. it really feels as though you captured the era and feel of World War II propaganda. I love the army's propaganda mainly because it's always so diverse, you know, ranging on a massive array of concepts like preservation of utilities and oil. Well i guess all you have to do now is create an advertisement of war bonds and Coca-Cola huh?

Nice picture and well done, but It was called the 'Army Air Forces'. It wasn't specifically called the U.S. Air Force until it became an individual branch on September 18, 1947.

I'm aware that it was the Army Air Corps. The commissioner wanted it this way.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Asianguy78 In reply to KaceyM [2010-05-13 23:06:30 +0000 UTC]

No, it changed from the Army Air Corps, to the Air Forces, than the individual Air Force in 1947. They did change the names every couple years or so, it first started out as the Army Air Service.

you miss one, US Army Air Service to US Army Air Corps to US Army Air Force then US Air Force, and it didn't start as the Army Air Service, it was Aeronautical Division, Signal Corps first in August 1, 1907. get the history right [link]

BluefoxP In reply to XresNTAP [2009-09-03 07:54:08 +0000 UTC]

It’s a P-40 not the Me-109 that you might be thinking of, the two can be mistaken one for another. As for the Nazi and Japanese flag on the plane are kill marks.

Here's a [link] the Second picture down shows a P-40.

I'm not sure what kind of plane it is - My resident plane expert here says it looks like a P-40 Warhawk - but I was using the original poster for reference - so I'm not sure what plane it was that they originally designed it after.
