Description Oh god, I typo'd 'sea' as 'saw'. How does that happen xD

But I do realize that it doesn't look very stormy. Dark maybe, but not as raging as I wanted...but I am glad that it would pass for an ocean c: Water doesn't not seem to be the easiest thing for my to draw

You have no idea how much experimentation I put on this piece. Its probably not even noticeable. I messed with transparency, and since SAI is really neat, I was able to actually paint over with transparency. That doesn't make much sense, but for those of you who have SAI may be able to figure out what I mean c:

I also messed with hue, saturation, and stuff like that. It helps a lot when the original color I choose doesn't suit the piece as well as I like...but I'm still got much more to learn <3

Thank you so much, *Ankaraven for creating a tutorial/guide [link]

I know I didn't do anything perfectly, but I'm improving, and this is hopefully proof of that!

It may not look as stormy as you wanted, but the waves look amazing! I couldn't draw waves like that if my life depended on it! I can draw people well enough but those aint people lol.

Thank you! It took me a while before I got the waves to look sorta right c:
The process of the piece was divided into two halves. First I worked on the serpent, then I wrestled the ocean...or should it be the other way around?
Hehe, people are their own kind of difficult XD

Hey, all good things take time and your process is your process. And people aren't really that hard to do if you practice a lot. I've been practicing since 6th grade and I'm in tenth grade now so take that as you will haha.

Yes it is, and I'm not rushing it...actually, I'd probably feel put off of art if I focused on improving, really. I started drawing people about two years ago...I just dug up the pictures, so I could re-use the binder...but gosh. XD
That's funny, since I'm in 10th grade, too

Yes this is prove that you are improving in your art, you're getting better at backgrounds than you were before, about the sea not looking stormy I'm not sure how big the sea serpent(?) is but it looks large so the waves look more stormy to me than you likely think.
If you could improve on something it would be the clouds they were too white if you were aiming for stormy as that usually means storm clouds, they also could be hmm more solid looking? The whites ones just look a little to wispy and white for the scene is all.
The serpent(?) themselves is well done, colours blended well and not too bold for the rest of them scene, the sizes of the head and neck match well too for the type of creature they are.

You really are improving and I'll be cheering you on the whole way =^-^=

Glad I am heading somewhere in the general direction of improvement. I've been at a stalemate with it for a while. I think the overall color and atmosphere helps it look stormier than how I see it, so if you don't look at it for too long to notice the gentle waves, there shouldn't be much of a problem, I guess XD

I actually didn't know where to go with the clouds. Maybe I should go look up some references for them. I probably would've let them be if you hadn't pointed that out...they do look more like the misty type, don't they?
...yes, let's call it a sea serpent c: I actually believe that the head is a bit too small, but the sea serpent is all on one layer, and I'd rather not mess with it too much.

But thank you for your comments! It helps me look at it from a different perspective, and helps me improve as well c: Its wonderful to know you'll be supporting me along the way~

Well I'm not sure 'bout the clouds either, but maybe making them more solid and them using a smudge tool on them? Not sure, and if you really wanted to be better stormy waves in future, more height and more stray to the waves that should make 'em better.

Well I'll be planning to support you in better ways in the future =^-^=

Kae-Yn In reply to Tiger-Guard [2011-09-29 04:22:10 +0000 UTC]

I normally don't use the smudge tool, but I think I get what you're saying c: I'll see what I can do for the clouds later, since I have a unit test to study for~

I think I'll paint a lot more waves and oceans later. It's a bit difficult, but I found it really enjoyable once I figured out what worked and what didn't

Thank you for all your feedback

It's hanasu, becuase that's the te form used when you're not using the masu form. It's hanasu kudasai, because when you are using kudasai, you cannot use the masu form

But thank you! I am really happy with how it turned out c:
Do you have a MagiStream? : o They probably won't be open for a while though. I've had a lot of work since the start of school :c
