Aw, well I'm glad you think so! ^.^
Well, I might draw him like this again, but this is pretty old now...not sure I could even draw like this anymore haha! (Besides, this account is kind of 'dead' right now so~)

Yesterday I hadn’t time to read ALL the comment of this drawing, but now I have read it.
Well… Do you know which is my “more popular” deviation? Bardak (Toriyama’s one, not Yuki’s son). I created a lot of ORIGINAL characters, and the more popular isn’t MINE.
Well, but I think it’s obvious: Bardak IS famous because he comes from a very famous and loved anime/manga, and my comic isn’t…
So it’s ok. People prefer Dragon Ball to “Yuki Ball” .
But, at the same time, sometimes someone (this happened very rarely, fortunately) told me “your characters aren't original. They're related to Dragonball” (something like that).
This confuses me a bit : if I don’t “copy” from DB people doesn’t “fav” my deviations, if I copy “I’m not original”.
Oooh, well… don’t worry, Kagira: World is full of “strange” people! And, above all, every person is different from the other ones …

"Lately I draw what my muse tells me. It happens to be DBZ. But there is a huge component of OC in it. And some people who oppose fanart would argue, "Why not just do an ORIGINAL thing"."
I might be going off on a tangent with this so bear with me.
I had a comment from someone yesterday, saying "It'd be nice to see more original stuff." It made me think, because the majority of my characters ARE original in my opinion. They may be "fan characters" but the design, personality and background history are entirely thought of by myself. The ONLY factor that makes them fan characters is that they're Saiyans. And even that concept is mostly my own design; MY Saiyans, as it were. I don't understand why they're considered "unoriginal" by this person. And I didn't get an answer when I asked them.
~End of tangent rant.
"I do this purely for fun"
That sums everything up PERFECTLY, my friend. That's the reason we're here.
Most of the time, I don't give a damn whether people like what I draw or not. As long as I have fun, I couldn't care less.
And I agree with your fanart theory. People tend to be judged by what their main artwork is - in this case, it'll be fanart. Most of those people, if not ALL of them, gradually start creating things for themselves, and often there are original characters mixed in among them. It's just that people take one look at a gallery, see lots of fanart, and make a judgement there and then without investigating further.
Again, I'll stop there because I'll go into a rant again.
Great to hear your opinion on this hun!

You're welcome! From what I've seen of your characters they are all original. And your concept may be DBZ inspired but it's like you've taken it to a whole other level that makes it an original concept. I suddenly realized JRR Tolkein's Lord of the Rings inspired a WHOLE genre of fantasy that some might have considered 'rip offs' of Tolkein years ago. Yet now it formed the foundation for a whole new genre. Tolkein merely crystallized universal myths into a format that was copied, modified and morphed into the individual worlds of many fantasy writers now.
The same could be said for that work inspired by any major groundbreaking concept. DBZ is a phenomenon that's inspired many people to start out with fanchars. And there are DOZENS if not hundreds that create what seems a 'fancharacter' on the surface but is in fact their own unique creation that ends up having LITTLE to do with Toriyama's and more to do with the person's OWN creativity.
So if anything, you've got your original universe with DBZ elements to play with. And that takes a LOT of creativity and it is original.

"Has everyone seen the vicious-ish debates going on at the minute, regarding fan artists and generic anime artists?? "
I may have seen forum topics that may have been about those, but I didn't actually read them (I mean, I just saw the titles). Why don't I read them? C'mon; it's an argument on a massive online community. I have zero faith that those will ever turn out pretty, or completely mature.
So I don't bother reading those. I only get pissed off when people start attacking eachother over stuff like this. These kind of debates cannot stop and they cannot be won. They're based on opinions, not facts. Opinions can't be proven. One side of the argument is not going to sway the other side because neither side can be proven, so neither side will shut up and admit defeat. I think debates like this are trivial because they will not lead to an answer and will only result in conflict.
Well, unless every single person involved is mature enough to keep themselves in line and be mutually respectful. But, you know, I've never seen that come up.
For the record though, I think people should draw what they want and look at what they want, and also not attack others for liking something else. YOU don't have to like it, but you also don't have to try and make other people stop liking it or insult them for it. Nothing's for everyone, but everyone has the right to enjoy whatever they want.

I completely agree. But I'm naturally inquisitive by nature, so I read them anyway. Even though I SHOULDN'T because it only gets me annoyed. Gah.
"These kind of debates cannot stop and they cannot be won."
True.
Which is why I didn't want to get personally involved - they have their opinion, I have mine. I didn't want to be caught up in someone else's argument, so I 'replied' in my artist's comments because I know few people read them nowadays. Sneaky.
At the end of the day, I don't want to tell people what to think or believe, or what and what not to like.

Exactly the point I was trying to make.
Huh. I feel like I've contradicted myself somewhere, for some reason...
