Description My first real attempt at stone.. I guess this would be more of a granite. But that's why I used a very simple type knot to start with, just to see if I could make it look like the pattern is set into it. I know I can do better..

My husband was looking at it, and he added the green background. I thought it looked good.

*Note* I changed the background a bit, worked with the shading and the highlights around the upper edge of the picture.. Doesn't change the HUGE glaring problems, but makes it look a little more palatible.

Sorry that I have to be the geologist, but a black stone flecked like that would be basalt and not granite. Granite is formed by slow cooling magma and makes up the continental plates, basalt is formed at underwater spreading centers, such as the mid atlantic ridge, and cools more qickly. Because slow cooling forms... You know what, I'll end it right there.

I love those interlaced rings! I have a book on whittleing that describes how to carve just such a set of rings out of one piece of wood! I've already carved a chain out of one piece of wood and it took me forever!

Actually, thank you. That was very interesting.. and informative! I know nothing about rocks or geology, but it is very interesting.

Thank you for the fav.. and yeah, I like those interlacing circles.. I use them quite frequently as a repeating pattern.

Beautiful arrangment of interlocking rings. I think the stone feel works SOOO well for knot work. The dark aged granite is a good choice. beautiful.

i think it is good, and if that is simple -- what isn't? for a first attempt at stone, surprisingly palettable results

Very nice. I now understand your conversation with your husband about "what type of stone" ya di ya ya ya.

This came out quite nice regardless of the "type" of stone you "used."

There is just something so primordial about seeing engravings (or images that look like engravings) that look like real things that are linked together.
I find myself looking and looking *shake head* *write comment*

I agree.. there is something primitive that draws people to carvings.. But I just figured out something.. there are no chisel marks. Something carved in stone.. marble, what have you.. even michaelangelo had chisel marks.. Hrmmmm.

THank you for the comments.
