I have this issue. I think it was the Gargantuas and the action on the cover that hooked me in.

I remember reading in the 1960's they made the Godzilla vs the giant lobster movie instead of the Gargantuas at the time. Another odd thing about this is that they where originally going to have King Kong in the 1960's giant lobster movie and not Godzilla but do to some movie rights thing Godzilla was used.

During the course of the late 70's and early 80's, there were multiple rumors for possible Godzilla movies. Godzilla vs Gargantua was one of those ideas being tossed about.

Great to finally see that scenario come into a reality.

I think a lot of people are really underestimating Gaira & Sanda. And judging by how Gaira physically overpowered/overwhelmed Varan in G:ROE #5 (a kaiju of Big G's class) and sent him into retreat, he would doΒ pretty goodΒ in a one-on-one fight with Big G. But, in this case,Β Godzilla willΒ also be fighting an equally formidable Sanda. Two kaiju who are more than capable of beating/stalemating other formidable tooth & claw kaiju like Varan, Anguirus, Titanosaurus and the like in a fight.

I mean, even in WOTG, the only weapons that really hurt Gaira & Sanda were the maser tanks (which can harm Godzilla, Anguirus, King Ghidorah, Gigan; and if it were not for their energy attacks, these weapons could possibly drive kaiju like them away) and what ultimately seemingly destroyed them was a powerful volcanic eruption (and then it's uncertain of their fate, because unlike the climax of Rodan, we didn't actually see either Sanda or Gaira perish).

Gaira and Sanda aren't pushovers, despite lacking any energy-based attacks (which isn't much of a problem considering a good many of Big G's most formidable daikaiju foes also don't have energy attacks). Gaira and Sanda have intense healing factors and immense physical strength, something Godzilla also possesses. But, their edge is that they're faster/more agile than Big G. Together, with their brute strength, agility, and savage ferocity, Sanda & Gaira could overwhelm and push Godzilla to the limit.

Godzilla's only advantage is his nuclear beam/breath/ray. Still, that doesn't meanΒ he'll vaporize either Sanda or Gaira in one shot. It would take, like most kaiju Big G has faced besides Zilla, a couple of powerful blasts to either Sanda & Gaira to really inflict enough damage to actually hurt them. Even then, given that both Gargantuas have a healing factor that is on par with Big G's own, it might not matter.

Besides this point, there could be more to this than meets the eye, as the team of ROE have thrown us some wicked, unexpected curve balls. Godzilla will most likely engage Gaira & Sanda in a brutal battle... but something might occur that'll cause these kaiju to form a truce against the other kaiju that the Devonians are controlling. The enemy of my enemy is a friend... so to speak.

That's why I'm enjoying this series so much. The team of G:ROE is keeping it interesting, spicing it up by giving us fans things that are old and new alike. There's plenty of surprises and twists. Everything that a good Godzilla comic series should have. Thus far, G:ROE has tied with Dark Horse's G:KOTM as my all-time favorite Godzilla comic series.

Bottom line: Gaira & Sanda should never, ever be underestimated. When it comes to kaiju, there's few that are more ruthless and formidable when just possessing tooth & claw. In other words, this has the making ofΒ a long, brutal fight.

Actually Sanda and Gaira's brain power is what makes them a real threat in combat. It's their capability of thinking outside the lines of just brute force (as Godzilla and most of the other kaiju do). Their level of intelligence is what makes them really fierce fighters and helps them surpass any short comings (such as not having an energy weapon). If anything it'll be a revisit to the similar battle Godzilla had with King Kong. But in this case Godzilla's having to fight two instead of one. Also Sanda and Gaira are both far more intelligent than King Kong.

GreenScar1990 In reply to RABID-RABBITdesign [2014-02-07 06:14:10 +0000 UTC]

True, but if you've read Godzilla: Rulers Of Earth #5 (where Gaira overpowered and sent Varan into retreat), you must also take in their agility/speed,Β incredible strength, claws & teeth and immense healing factor into consideration along with their cunning intellect. Those are some major assets in battle as well. Am I right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RABID-RABBITdesign In reply to GreenScar1990 [2014-02-08 23:00:35 +0000 UTC]

Yes. But their capacity to think outside the realms of brute force is their greatest. Though between the two, I'd say Sanda is the smarter of the two.

I have to agree with you on that. And Gaira would be the most violent/aggressive of the two Gargantuas. It makes me all the more eager for this epic showdown.
