Tempting Fate - Ikarus in Theory just came about because one of my friends asked me if I would do a Steampunk painting for a convention she might be doing this winter. I wanted to get it done early so I set a personal deadline and made it! -yay me-There is a bit of humor about this painting if you look for it and consider a few things thus the title.
But anyway, I hope you enjoy him!

I adore the steampunk theme of it... It's definitely gorgeous and well done. I love the attention to detail you seem to have paid..
The only thing I think looks off is his index finger..

Mm..when I did the finger, it was slipping a little under the fabric with a slight bend so you wouldn't see the whole of it. I suppose a touch up of the shading might make a little difference.

A bit more shading/contrast would make all the difference here-- especially since under the shirt there is quite a bit less light. It is absolutely lovely still though.

Thank you! Been trying to capture more of the emotions/life in my paintings. I think I've been studying people and things more than I paint sometimes. LOL! Next wee, I'm going to take this painting to a Steampunk event that is coming up!

His face is very lively, and I think his expression is sort of intriguing and passionate. It must be hard to draw expressions in a realistic way - in cartoons, you can just exaggerate, but human faces aren't as elastic as those of cartoons.

-grins- I think I've studied so many faces online just trying to learn expressions better! Gah! Funny how you can look at your own face every day and still have to work hard at getting emotions right.

Nicely done. Icarus is known for "making" his wings, and the fact his here are artificial steampunk ones carry on that theme but in a new way...and I bet they work better than ones glued together by wax too

Thanks! Heheh! This boy got one step smarter. You're right! No wax but you know, he's got a different problem just below the wings in the form of jets! All I can say is he must be really confident in that flame retardant coat of his. -smirks-
