Description Umah's death requested by ~nicholasmills

It needed some creativity to adapt this scene in an evil and dynamic way and mostly true to character.

Unlike Soul Reaver Kain, Blood Omen 2 Kain doesn't show remorse to his traitors.

Soul Reaver "Kain" is an entirely different character. The original Kain isn't a merciful person or who cares with universal morals other than his own. He either shown no remorse or made something cynicidal statement. Except that lame queen-line, that feels more like a scriptwriting mistake as it's terribly out of character. But I liked he killed Umah, that made Kain even more different from the genreic heroes who're always getting weak by the begs of their wounded enemy, especially if it's a woman.Β

Just like Kain said while facing the Sarafan Lord in Blood Omen 2:
"Cowards and traitors deserve no second thoughts, only their complete annihilation".
He is so badass! And Umah deserved the fate that was given her.

If I may of course be completely honest with you, I don't think that Kain was out of character by this "queen" line mentioned before.
Now that I thought about it, he has changed over time. I have noticed that Kain in Soul Reaver era differes from Kain in Blood Omen era if you know what I mean He developed in my opinion. In the series in some parts he was not necessarily good or neccesarily evil, which makes him an interesting and outstanding character comparing him to average good and bad characters just like you said before and I completely agree on that one
While playing the series, Kain in all games has showed some compassionο»Ώ only for Umah, Magnus and Raziel.
Call it feelings, affection, desire or trust, I believe that something "was" in there between them even tho it was kinda ridiculous the way it was presented.
Or maybe it was just one sided (for Kain)? I tend to believe that she wanted to manipulate him for her own goals to make sure that the vampire resistance remained safe.
He was still power and revenge hungry vampire and by that pissed at her for betraying him and standing between him and his way to rule Nosgoth, so he ended her life.

I think he kinda evolved out of it as a character.

These are just my speculations so please don't hit me! I bruise easily!
I hope I'm actually making some sense out of it....

KainTheVampireLord In reply to Orander [2013-04-30 14:08:56 +0000 UTC]

Nope, I'm not hitting anyone or starting a witch-hunt because of an opinion.

Kain was completely lacking in human emotions and had no soft feelings towards anyone, he was so refreshing after the flood of Anne Rice vampires and similar stuff. I liked the sadistic way he treated women in Blood Omen 2, so when it came to that lame queen-line it was like "wut?" it was so endlessly out of character I didn't took it seriously, goof lines even occur in blockbuster movies too, just ignoring them. That wasn't Kain to talk like that, even Vorador was out of character for caring so much with Umah, in Blood Omen his whole bride-staff got butchered and he didn't said a word about that so why was that big fuss about losing one in Blood Omen2.

SR is rather a character destruction, Kain was an anti-hero in the Blood Omens, not good, nor purely evil, his character was gone in SR and got replaced with a genreic wizard. Mr green is right the opposite person than Kain, originally was created for an entirely different game, never had a linking to Kain and that's visible. Mr Green's fatherly compassion for Raziel was obvious mostly in Defiance, if that game was made with Kain and not with greenie, he'd hit the reaver through Raziel without any remorse right in the minute it was completed in the spirit forge, laughing evil and feeling pleased. But still he wouldn't play the wizard manipulator in first place, Kain is rather a person who grabs a sword and get things done on his own.
I understand your point, mine is different, met the Blood Omens the first of the Legacy series so SR and the greenie-green as "Kain" simply doesn't works for me.

Before I stumbled on LoK series, I was kinda dissapointed to find every vampire game, novel or movie to be presented and connected in more - dare I say - "erotic way". After hearing about Twilight I almost lost my faith in any future works that contained vampires in it. I think that beside Kain I was able to like only "Vampire Hunter D", I don't know if you ever heard about that movie?

Yup, I remember that moment and I was also wondering "Hmm... Why is Vorador alive?". His caring for Umah also confused me, it was suppose to be explained in Defiance and she was to be put in Defiance as her human self, tho it was cut in the final release. I'm still trying to find out who is this mysterious woman on the painting in Vorador's mansion... Maybe you know who she is? I though it was Umah but Amy Henning said it wasn't her.

I understand your point of view. Kain's changing through the series is a bit suprising, but as I have said before, I think that if he always was so ruthless and just evil, he would be no different than a typical villain. That is what I think at least.

Hmm... talking about all of it makes me want to replay whole series *vanishes to search for the LoK games*

I felt the same, didn't got impressed by classic vampires like Dracula (In Stoker's novel the protagonists irritated me a lot) the cliches about the stake, garlic, holy water and such felt superstitious and silly but nothing wicked. Modern vampires like Anne Rice's stuff are the typical idolized lovers, rather the pleasing of lonely housewives with erotic fantasies. Personally I hate romances, since vampires were connected with erotism and romance I stayed away from all vampire content, almost didn't bought Blood Omen2 (It was my first Legacy game) reading "vampire" on the cover was a put off, but the screenshots on the back were promising, they depicted Kain killing armoured people with various weapons.
Still Kain is the only vampire I like so far.
Yes, I have both of the Vampire Hunter films, they had a good rating and got curious about them, just need to get enough free time to watch

I didn't bothered much with Umah, she felt quite sticking out of the story, Kain's behhaviour with her was out of character, also Vorador wasn't expected to care much with any of his women. I don't know anything about that woman portrait, something similar picture was showing in Vorador's mansion in BO1, probably has no importance.

Yes, SR fans are fine with taking mr greenie-green the "evolved Kain" but to me it's a nonsense. I rather feel mr green a genreic flat character as compared to Kain, more like a clone of Yoda. But as for Kain I didn't found him a typical villain, he's not like Lex Luthor or Darth Vader, though he's ruthless, sadistic and wicked it's not only the villain traits he has, but also he's a straight and honest person who holds on to his point of view and has strong morals, also he's dealing with his adversaries face to face, these traits are rather linked to protagonists. That made Kain an impressive and charismatic figure at first play. I usually don't care much with game heroes as they're always the same genreic people, but Kain in Blood Omen 1-2 was sticking out of the average. But that was all gone in SR, first with giving the main role to a top most genreic goodhero in Raziel's person, second they may gave Kain's name to the greenie, but that creature is lacking in everything that made Kain an outstanding person.

I'm just replaying Blood Omen2, didn't seen it for years, it was a weird pleasure to hear Kain's cynical comments again and unleash his sadistic style fighting. Played Rune months earlier, it's a viking game, but very similar to Kain, I kept confusing the two games when I played them the very first time.

Haha, that's what always makes me laugh xD Garlic, holy water and such stuff became an ordinary thing in vampire creations, like they couldn't come up with something more original. I personally like some bits of romances when they are written well, not forced and got some sense. I hate romantic comedies, that's for sure.

I was kinda shocked when I saw Kain looking like a monster for the first time. I even asked "Uhmm... Kain what happened to your forehead?" and when Raziel got thrown into the abyss, most of his flesh was seperated from him, but of course his hairs are all fine Isn't that strange? O_o
Your desription of his character perfectly matches him
As a villain Kain was smart enough to overcome any obstacles he encountered and that impressed me greatly. He had flaws like everyone of us and that made him even more realistic.

You know, few years back after beating all the games for the first tme I got inspired by them and started to write my own vampire book (around 800 pages) then I left it. After so long time, yesterday I looked into it again and I thought "Oh my! Where is all my inspiration now?"
My brother was the one who introduced me to LoK series almost 10 years ago and I gladly come back to these games and always wishing they would make another one in this universe ^_^ Reboot would be always nice to see. If they decided to revive Thief series by making fourth instalmment in this universe I'm still looking out for a good news about LoK.

I'm a maniac when it comes to games and now comparing games that are nowadays are nothing to what used to be made in the past. It lacks soul and that "something" that instantly hookes you up to it. In the old games you had a big world to explore on your own, discover some interesting secrets and now? You have this kind of help of pointing where you have to go. It kills the pleasure in playing in my opinion.

Rune? I'm not sure I heard about this, but if it is similiar to Kain then I definitely need to take a look at it

Yes, those folklore cliches about vampires are quite silly. Even if I liked Salem's Lot by Stephen King in 80%, the garlic and holy water stuff was ridiculous in there too. I can't stand romances, don't mind them if they have a minor part in a story and not affecting the main storyline, but when a story is all about relationships in the main focus it is not for my likes.
I didn't knew who the hell that green creature was when playing a SR game the first time, but always wished it to shut up and get off the screen, I kept waiting for Kain to show up in the game at last. Got suspicious about the half of the game and checked the cover if I really really bought a Legacy of Kain game because saw no Kain in it.
Never felt sorry for Raziel, he was dropped into the main role out of the blue and doesn't matters how he was written to be a character every gamers would sympathize with, I couldn't like the character. He reminded me to a skinned Gollum by appearance and moves He looked funny too covering only his missing jaw with that cloth, but kept running around with a bare ass and proudly showing he has some other bodyparts missing.

Maybe oldie games were rather made for young adults and not for kids in first place, those games were maybe lacking in realism, but needed some imagination and thinking to beat them. They're also rather inspiring for illustrations as you have to imagine a scene yourself to adapt it to an artistic depicting. Today's games have so realistic graphics as if you were watching a movie so no role left for the imagination, also the gameplay became that easy even little kids can beat it. Noticed that about Tomb Raider too, the oldies sometimes needed a peek into a walkthrough whenever the puzzles were difficult, but these new releases by Crystal are way too easy straight-forward games. And when a complete game can be beaten in 2 hours they drop in "extras" like speedrunning, personally I don't find rushing through a game in the shortest time a fun thing.

That's some review of Rune [link] The main character is a viking warrior, could pick various weapons and also various spells were connected to each of them, also had a rage meter, and while Kain kicked his victims or smashed them in the face with a sword handle, Ragnar had his own cruelty too, torn off heads and limbs and thrown them at his enemies. Couldn't do much damage with a severed head, but was fun to throw. The two games were similar in mood too, I confused Blood Omen 2 and Rune after the first playing.

I didn't like books about vampires, and now after hearing about Twilight and my colleagues saying how "wonderful and handsome is Edward", I get the feeling that I might get sceptical about vampires in the future games/books/movies.
Too much romance can definitely kill the story, at least that's my opinion
Maybe one day I'll have the ability to make a proper vampire game, since it was my dream to make games And maybe I'll be able to release my story one day but that still remain as a dream of mine
Ahaha yup! I saw your drawing of Raziel combined with Gollum it was hilarious xD
It was kinda funny to me, his body parts are gone and yet his hair remained untouched. Logic xD
I also hate the fact that people says that Kain was jelous because Raziel evolved quicker than him, but thats not true, it was part of the plan and a prophecy. Why can't they understand that?

Exactly I like to explore my surroundings and discover things on my own and when I have an arrow pointing straight at my goal... It's just not fun anymore, like developers thinks that we have no brain to think so we need an extra help to finish the game <_<
Speaking of Tomb Raider, in Guardian of Light there was a DLC pack with Raziel and Kain, did you play it? I was wondering if it's worth it's price. When I heard about it I thought it was a hint on the future possibility of LoK game, especially now that we heard about new domain "warfornosgoth".
And also, have you heard or played in Baldur's Gate? Another game of my childhood
The game is all 2D, I loved all the stories in this game, sometimes I was taking my character to the library or merchant that was selling books and I get all of them and basically most of the time I spent on reading in this game. It's sad that there are no more games like this one :< One company released Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and they are planning on releasing it's sequel in summer this year and then Baldur's Gate 3.

Thank you for telling me about the game
I'll get it after I'll finish my monthly painting for class assignment ^_^
I just hate painting/drawing still life <_< Why can't they give me something that contains fantasy in it?

I didn't met good vampire books so far, even Salem's Lot didn't became a favourite, Stephen King is my favourite author, but he's way better with creating own evils than with cliche vampire stuff.
Hehe I hate romances so absolutely agree with romances kill a story. A certain type of women are crazed with lovey-dovey content, but I can't stand that.
You're into many things with interests in game creating and writing.
I find creating a videogame an interesting field of jobs too, but rather the concept arts and character designing part than the programming.

The SR character like/dislike thingie is very simple, here you got a prettyfaced goodguy unrightfully doomed, so gamers crying loud and feeling hate against the antagonist who dared to hurt their hero, also the goodguy's endless complains keep fueling the hate. I often see Kain hated by Legacy of KAIN fans too crying "he hurt my poor raziiiieeel" but they don't see it's not Legacy of Raziel, also they don't see mr green isn't Kain, it is not linked to the original character but they also hate Kain from the Blood Omens because the green critter who wears his name in SR torn off the wings of their beloved hero.

Yes, oldie games often took weeks to beat them, sometimes they needed a lot of thinking or exploring to figure out how to get to the next level, also the imagination had a lot of work too as the polygon characters and environments didn't had as many details to look real. But that wasn't a bad thing. Classic Tomb Raiders aren't easy to play, the new ones got simplified a lot with the straight forward paths, glimmering surfaces to make easy to see the moveable items, also a lot of moves are automatic, you don't need to properly align for a long jump, the engine corrects the movement. Nope, I didn't played Guardian of Light, I felt Legend and Underworld already tearing away from the original concept, but that Guardian of Light was beyond ridiculous by the gameplay videos and the Warcraft-look of the whole thing. Just can't say an objective opinion on that game. I like Tomb Raider and don't like seeing it's downfall, I quit with these new games after Underworld, that was the last installment I gave a try to. Hehe Raziel and the greenie-green are those characters who can't open my wallet
I have no doubts about the SR-line will be continued, there were SR/Defiance related easter eggs in Crystal's Tomb Raiders, but not a single hint to the Blood Omen side. I likely think there will be more games released under the Legacy title, but it rather should be renamed to Legacy of raziel as there's nothing upcoming for Kain's and the Blood Omens' fans.

Heard of Baldur's Gate but never owned it, but played Diablo II, the other praised RPG, but my top favourite in this genre is Sacred, that game is hilarious as it was rather the parody of other RPG-s and popular fantasy and sci-fi movies and books.

Haha I truly understand that, hated drawing still life and bored models sitting in a chair, makes the artist feel endlessly bored and uninterested too.

As long as the romance will not be the main focus, but a small addition to present more emotions and depth then I'm fine with it. ^_^ Now everything is affected with a romance bits, sometimes it scares me to play any game without someone jumping on the main character with flirts O_o
It was refreshing to see in Assassin's Creed 3 game a protagonist named Connor Kenway, without any romance, just focused on his duty to save his people's land. I'm writing a fanfiction myself in that universe, I hope I won't fail xD
Hmm, now that I'm thinking about it, if someone truly intended to write a romance fanfic with Kain, it would be hella hard I have seen some and most of them fail badly.
I'm into concept art and storytelling mostly like Ragnar Tornquist who created The Longest Journey and Dreamfall

True, I feel bad for Kain, being left out of the loop, abandoned and replaced with the blue guy. I wonder, why Silicon Knights gave away Blood Omen IP? I'm sure they would make awesome series if they still had it.
I'm not going to buy Tomb Raider, but I will see on youtube what's with that DLC pack with Raziel and Kain.
As I was glad to see the main "female" hero (since most of them are men) I wasn't so interested in Tomb Raider, but my brother loves it and beat the latest of it's series with Survival Edition. There are just so many games of her @_@ after Thief 4 they better get back to LoK and if they won't put Kain in the main role, I swear I'll go there and kick their butts
Once when I watched my brother playing Tomb Raider (I don't know which part was it) I noticed human Kain's painting in Lara's mansion, that was interesting
That cancelled project called Prodigal Sons was supposed to be featuring Kain. How could they leave us hanging like that? It's so unfair >_<

Diablo II was nice to play, I think it's better than Diablo III. Played Diablo III demo and I wasn't so satisfied with it like with previous game. I think I have heard of Sacred, but I'm not able to say much about it xP
Oh I know the feeling, I remember one situation when our classmate was given a role of a model, and for 3 hours straight he was sitting in one position on a chair and could not move an inch and in no time he actually fell asleep xD That was hilarious ^_^
My teachers are always telling me that I have to learn how to paint/draw still life first, to understand the shapes, colors and proportions, then I can get to other stuff, yet before I went to art college I was drawing people, action, dynamic, mystical and fantasy pictures and I'd rather say that I learned more from drawing a propotions of human body than still life
So as a a teacher, how are you teaching kids exactly if I may ask?

Haha pulling romance onto Kain is a braindead idea. Those fanfictions altering the person of a main character are wrong by default simply for the reason they make a character into something it is not. "Good fanfiction" putting a non-romantic character into a romantic relationship simply doesn't exist, doesn't matters how much the writer claims her own character the "perfect soulmate" to the official character. Those "perfect soulmates" are usually mary sue stereotypes, just their writers don't see that. I rather like characters as they're originally written and don't feel the need for changing them (that's why I hate the greeny-green orc because it's not Kain, or wouldn't like to see Kain falling in love with anyone, or Lara Croft casting away her relic pursueing ambitions for some relationship)

Hmm the Longest Journey sounds familiar to me, but not sure I met it.

Silicon Knights didn't dropped Kain on their own, don't know about what exactly happened, but more likely Crystal simply took over the Legacy of Kain IP and the concept for Shifter, Silicon brought the lawsuit on Crystal for taking two of their games. They didn't wanted to give it to Crystal, they hell dislike what was made of their story and characters.

Tomb Raider was my first ever videogame, and Core's series are still my favourites, but don't like what Crystal made of it, Anniversary is the closest to the original concept, but they still ruined Lara with creating her a tragic past, an immortal arch enemy, family secrets, sensitive personality, she was very close to become a mary sue. I won't play Guardian of Light or this new survival installment, don't know whether they're good or bad as videogames, but I don't see reason they'd deserve the Tomb Raider title as these new releases completely lost connection with their source.
That Prodigal Sons thing was a fangame with Raziel in the main role, that was another Soul Reaver related stuff with the liautenants and the greenie-green. Sorry, I have no interest in anything featuring the greenie-green creature under Kain's name.

It happened to our art models a lot too they fallen asleep while sitting or laying in the same position for hours. I rather preferred the quick sketches when the model stood in a pose for 10 minutes, but took various action poses, that was a far more interesting work than drawing the model sitting bored on a chair next to boring stills. Art education often stuck to the main shapes for 4 years, drawing boring stills and sitting models with pencils for 2 years and doing the same with paints for another 2 years. Here they don't give much freedom to creativity and originality, even the technical side of painting was expected to follow the plen-air and avantgarde styles.
Teaching kids are not the most pleasant jobs, wouldn't be bad teaching in art schools, but it is all wasted efforts with arts in a public school, most of the kids are simply uninterested in it.

It's always the best solution when an original writer creates the content about character he/she made and not other people, if someone would like to see Kain falling in love, then it would be better if the original authors did something about. Fanfiction writers can only try that, some of them are great and some are terrible.

The Longest Journey is the point and click adventure game with main protagonist, April Ryan, crossing two worlds: one that consists of science, technology and order and second world of magic and chaos. It's pretty interesting, in sequel called Dreamfall you are controlling not just April but also Zoe Castillo and Kian Alvane Developers are making Dreamfall Chapters now and this game will be out in November 2014. If you like adventure games with funny characters, puzzles etc then I reccomend it

Oh, I'm sorry then I wanted to say "The Dark Prophecy" and was thinking about Prodigal Sons xD
[link]
If only Kain would like like this in Defiance and SR instead of green creature
I was looking at videos about Prodigal Sons and found this:
Part 1 [link]
Part 2 [link]
And the FAQ [link]
This is a fanmade conclusion about the events of game, animation isn't the best truth to be told, but the idea itself is kinda intriguing in my opinion

Yes, quick sketches are much better ideas. Hmm in art college we are mostly doing still life and drawing models, sometimes with pencils, sometimes with paints. I remember the first time when we had our first pencil works in art college, teachers even told us how to grab and hold pencil like "artist should" xD That was funny, they actually treated us like some idiots in the beginning, then showed some more respect.
If kids are not interested in arts, then what usually are they doing there?

KainTheVampireLord In reply to Orander [2013-05-08 14:59:56 +0000 UTC]

I like characters as they're originally written, it is just the self-projection of fangirls when they want to see this and that character in love. They have a desperate need for love and projecting that to their recent favourite fictional character, and idolizing the poor person into something he's not, the general cliche is making the most badass characters into mushy sweethearts falling in love with their fictional selves (mary sues) as the one true lovers of the official character.

I didn't cared with prodigal sons, fanmade "sequels" to Legacy of Kain always screw up the storyline and forcing Blood Omen2 before the events of SR1 (doesn't matters BO2 goes after the SR/Defiance stuff) they always push SR and Raziel into spotlight as if that line was the main storyline of Legacy of Kain.

Heard of Dark Prophecy, those character concepts were nice, but other screencaps of that cancelled game had the green orc on it. Read somewhere a short summary of the story, that was facepalming to see they tried interfering the Blood Omen story to justify their character altering and plotholes from the Blood Omen and Shifter mismatching. Personally I don't weep for it got cancelled, would be worse if they made an installment that'd made Kain's destruction legit by "explaining" he got morphed into the green orc.

Hmm teaching how an artist should hold a pencil sounds a bit snobbish. Buess everyone should hold a pencil or a brush the way it is comfy to work with.
Kids are only interested in facebook and fighting each other, it is really hard to make them draw as they think 5 minutes of drawing is fair enough for a 45 minutes lesson. And they think drawing penises can shock me I had a lesson about illustrations and wanted them draw their fave videogame characters or scenes thinking everyone loves drawing what they love, but nope, they either denied to have something favourite or said they just love gaming and not bothering with drawing a character. Maybe they think the videogames are dropped from the sky ad these kids can't believe the characters and scenes were designed and drawn by people, they claimed it is impossible to draw things like that.

Hmm, that reminds me of Bishop from Neverwinter Nights 2, he was evil and badass character and he was originally written to have a romance with the player just like Neeshka, but these contents from them were cut due to the lack of time. I think that even evil people can love, just in their own way Of course they are just computergame characters after all Kain and Raziel were perfectly fine without romance, the game was focusing on other important matters, like time, events, power, enemies of Kain etc and even if they added something romantic or about love with Kain I would still like him. Since BO1 he was my favourite vampire character ever and that will never change
I have read some fanfiction and not all of them are with Mary Sues. True, it's hard to find a proper character that is realistic with flaws, his/her own worries and weaknesses, but good stories that are worth reading are there.
So I assume that you did not look at the links I sent you? xP

I'll always say that SR is just the addition to the story and nothing more. Perhaps if they made SR games like Defiance, that both Raziel and Kain could be playable, then maybe it would be better or if they made another games just with "normal looking" Kain, But I guess i already told you that.

I know right? xD Yes I agree with you on that one. I was always saying that in art "nothing is true, everything is permitted". Really? They are behaving these way? Then I guss it's not easy to motivate such kids to work. I always thought that I could become a teacher but I never knew if I would be good for it. Oh and I apologize for the late replies, college keeps me busy x_x

Kain is incompatible with romance. If he'd had soft feelings, caring with someone that wouldn't be Kain to act like that. Even if the green orc had Kain's look it still wouldn't be Kain, greenie is way too soft and patient, and that selfless caring in Defiance was even sickening.
I think love is overrated, I see no necessity at all to put love into stories or fictional characters with the excuse of "deepening the character". Love isn't the ultimate tool to deepen a personality, only fanfiction writers think that (to justify their character butchering with self-inserted pairings) so love isn't a must to include in a story to write a good character. If Kain's story had romance in it then wouldn't be different from the Anne Rice vampires, Lestat and co. made me despise modern vampires in first place.
Ick, I rather like reading original stories, fanfictions playing in known universes but with completely original characters maybe not bad, but those ones retouching the stories and persons of known characters can't be good simply by the fact of using known characters.

Nope, I checked the links, but heard of that Prodigal sons years ago, seen gameplay videos of it and had a previous opinion on it.
Also seen that altered BO2 Kain model, but there were also other screencaps with environments posted of that cancelled game, and those had the green orc on it.

Yes, I see the SR-line as an off-track too, a story of a possible future that should not be happened, the SR-line's ending in the Blood Omen area assumed a new and clean start which is the storyline of Blood Omen2 that ends with Kain's victory and not with the events of SR coming again. But whatever we think the off-track grown over the original and fans like the series for Raziel and the greenie, it's so obvious Crystal Dynamics don't have to make a research about Blood Omen or SR marketability, sad but the Blood Omen line and Kain have no chances to survive.

Once I felt like I could be good for a teacher, but that's one thing to make tutorials explaining a technique for people who want to learn it, but it's entirely different to try explaining the simpliest things such as how to draw shades to kids who don't give a crap, even not bringing any tools to work with.
No worries, even replying after weeks isn't a problem on the internet, real life always have the higher importance.

That is true I mean, if Kain seemed so sad about losing Raziel in the end of Defiance then why did he throw him into the Abyss in the first place? It seems so twisted and some things are kinda confusing
People seems to need romantical affairs desperately in games or movies. I'm not against romances as long as they are not the main focus and are written well. In some cases it's okay, but mostly it's Twilight-like romance and that's just scary to watch, play or read xD

Perhaps these screencaps were just to show where the game could take place and they would implement modified BO2-like Kain, that would be awesome

Indeed, there is a difference. It's sad to see people or kids in that matter not caring for what you do or trying to convey to them :/ Is there not at least one that is interested? Or all kids are acting the same?
I'm glad then ^_^ My teachers really like to give us tons of class assignments <_< I've been given another onet and I have to finish it till the end of May. It's supposed to be self-portrait on 100x70cm paper with pencils. I already have an idea, it's gonna be dark I wanted to do some crossover of Assassn Creed and LoK

I find that plotholes or continuity issues, SR followed the story of Shifter at the start that needed a whinging goodie-good protagonist and a Vader-esque antagonist that got killed by the end of the game, killing the green orc was cut out to keep the story open for a sequel, SR2 left alone the Shifter source, that shows on the behaviour of the orc as it turned more patient and wizardly with Raziel, and Defiance was probably written to please the fans with turning the vampires into angelic selfless creatures who can save the world but got damned by the stoopid humans and stoopid hylden, of course everyone is wrong except the vampires. The green orc was awfully selfless and fatherly, can rather relate it to today's teen vampire stuff than to Kain.
I understand a lot of girls love romances as that gave the cliche of females must be soft and romantic, but I belong to the exceptation who hate romances.

I read somewhere about the plot of that Dark Prophecy as it had both Kain and the green orc in the story and the green orc tried to reason with Kain to make him do things different, couldn't keep reading it because of endless facepalming, really if Crystal wants to shove down on our throats the green orc is Kain then how the hell the critter could meet or interact with Kain as it'd be a paradox. Raziel met his own past self and probably would screwed up his existing anyways even without killing his past self, all who read or write sci-fi knows your life experiences making you what you are and going back in time and making changes in your actions resulting a fatal change in your future. Shouldn't put Kain and the green thing into the same game for fanpleasing. I'd welcome a game purely with Kain, but without any linking to the SR-side or dragging the greenie-green into Kain's story.

Ick, a self-portrait in that size is way too huge, fine size for full body figures, but feels too big for a portrait. That's nice to be allowed to express yourself and not just draw the portrait true to reality.

Hey there! I apologise for such a really, really late reply >_<
I had a lot of things to do since I changed schools in the middle of the year but I passed all the exams and done all paintings, drawings, sculptures, linocuts etc so I'm finally free x_x
I hope you don't mind :< And that you are doing well

Yup, it was kinda strange to show the vampires as some kind of disadvantaged creatures, sure they were presented as some noble race before Hylden cursed them but still... Vampiries are not supposed to be "good", that totally derails their entire existence if you know what I mean.

Me too, I would definitely play a game with Kain only.
Now that I have free time, I'm gonna draw Kain
Blood Omen version of him of course and maybe even Raziel before he became a wraith...
Hmm we shall see I'd like you to see it when I'm done, and if you'd like to see it of course

There is supposed to be some new game in LoK universe.
Have you heard about that? It's called "Nosgoth" I think. I'm having a bad feelings about this, that it's gonna be some massive MMo thing :/

I have finished this portrait, it is in my gallery, feel free to check this out if you want to ^_^

I have also a question if I may.
Since you are teacher, what is your opinion about anime/manga?
I'm asking because many art teachers seems to hate it a lot, saying it's not a true art and it should have never existed.
What would you say about that?

No problem, real life can keep one busy. Finally summer break had come here too. Had to make arts and lino cuts for the exams? Loved doing these too, despite of the endless conflicts with the teachers because of my style.

Maybe people at Crystal Dynamics are unable to create villainous protagonists, they must idolize a character with all the expected traits of a "good hero". In Blood Omen both vampires and humans were portrayed as corrupted creatures, one was worse than the other. Kain described Nosgoth as a dying, rotting world that gave a gloomy atmosphere to the game, I liked that a lot. And there came Crystal Dynamics with their victimized innocent good hero and vampires got morphed into angelic noble creatures who're supposed to be the rightful saviours and guardians of their world. The typical: vampires= good, humans = stoopid setting. SR fans hate Twilight though it has more relation to their fave SR-line (especialy Defiance) than they realize.

Okays, I'll take a look at your drawing

Heard of that multiplayer game, but not interested. I think I'm done with the Legacy of Kain series, it kept disappointing with the SR games so I see no point in giving a try to any future releases. But that doesn't means I won't draw Blood Omen.

As for manga, I think styles and techniques have their own proper place of use, like traditional techniques for fine art and digital tools for concept art or technical drawings, I think manga is fine in animated films. There's a huge quality difference between animated films too, there are decent ones like the Studio Ghibli filmsΒ  or Akira (even if it wasn't for my fancy) and crappy ones I'd say too they should never existed like Dragon Ball or Sailor Moon. But manga can't pass for artwork, it's not representing someone's own style or an individual art, just as I'd get freaked out of seeing Disney princesses or Donald Duck on an oil painting.

Hehe I can relate to that
Since I'm (as art teachers described me) a "fresh, freelance artist without basic knowledge and right/proper art style", we had some disagreements too. Some teachers where even acting like "woot, you can actually draw/do something even properly? but you even wasnt in art school/college before!"
I was kinda like "ehh?' but I only could smile to that

I guess they just want to make what an "audience" desires to have and see. Now look how many companies followed this step and now some games arent even worth called "decent". I liked BO atmosphere too, it was a different and more interesting setting than most of the games I've played, especially a narration. Beautiful english I say, if only more games could be like that instead of typical narration with simple, average words and curses.
I suppose thats how the most of the games are created nowadays: a good hero who stops some sort of apocalypse or simply saves the world.
Too much drama in games over such things like this can be annoying in my opinion

Thank you for commenting my drawing! I'm glad that you liked it

The "MMO" part instantly got me dissapointed and I was positively thinking about the rumors considering the game.
I'll give it a try if it comes out, I'll see if its gonna be that bad. If it will be then I can easily forget about it
I hope you'll draw/paint even more Blood Omen stuff! I just love the way how you are perfectly capturing the detailes and its characters, especially Kain
You have a great talent and I wish I could make wonderful artworks like you ^_^

I always thought of anime/manga as a different form of art. It's cartoon-ish but I like it
Hehe I've watched Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon when I was like 7 or 8, I didnt care about quality much then. Now I think its kinda creepy considering also how old they are.
I see your point True, most of the character have the same face, just change their clothes, eyes color and hair and you'll have another person also with the same face.
I suppose that's the main attribute about manga and anime, to draw characters with different appearances so they can be recognisable, when in more "real" drawings you actually have to work on all the details on the face so people can guess who it is.
