I finally painted something!
I am trying to use colours outside of my comfort zone, like red or at least saturated colours. It is not easy for me given my intense desire to mute out all colour. I like Koi. I am not good at painting them, but am happy to have painted something after so long. The gold made for a challenge to photograph. I will repost when I figure out the voodoo.
Original watercolour with blended 10kt pulverized gold on 150 lb cold press paper. Measures 11 x 15 in.

I like this, its very understated. I ironic thing is, this is satured for you, but for me this is incredibly muted!

yes, I am realizing more and more that saturation is certainly not the colours I used here, although this step has taken me to new depths. My current works involve much more saturated and even pure tones. Thanks for your comments and for the fav.

This was a fun break myself back into painting again after a long absence, and it was very freefeeling while I painted. I was indeed seeking to let go of stress and give myself a creative outlet.

those arent koi..... ones a black moor and the other a pearl scale... (fancy goldfish) koi have long bodies like uhm.. hmm... salmon?.... koi are a wild gold fish.....

I admit I don't know much about types of fish. I simply know that in Japan they refer to all goldfish as koi and they are drawn painted in all varieties and refered to as koi universally.
But I am glad you like the painting.

This is so wonderful! The kois look so beautiful and their fins are so nice (especially the blue one's).
I guess the original painting looks even better because of the missing brightness now on the left (on the right the gold is better visible).
Oh and you painted the background so awesomely! I like how you left out the most and keep only the important colors.

I did finally find my way back to the table and paintbrushes. It feels good and I missed it so.
For sure you should paint soon. I can not wait!
As for the lighting...I am having a hard time photographing some of my paintings and getting the colours and lighting correct. Try, try again.

And taking photos of paintings really is a pain. You can see the light source on the black color and the colors don't fit to the original painting :-/

My goodness, this rocks! I'm glad to see you branch out while still sticking to your style. I think it's georgeous. You really have a good eye for simple composition. Beautiful colors and that gold always makes it special.

I do stick to my style....I find I rather can not avoid the style I paint with. Not sure how I feel about that yet. I am very glad that you like the colours, as they make me nervous.

Great job! It's extremely hard to find people who can actually use watercolor to that degree. I would like to see more, keep it up!
