I personally miss the lines... I thought it gave him a really nice crisp look (even if I thought there were a tad too many). I think lack of the lines changes the mood of the drawing a bit too- certain parts were there's a lack of lines make the shirt seem kind of like a blob (like the collar, and arms mostly).

Another thing that I noticed is the difference in shading with respect to the hair and shirt. The shirt has an indication of depth, while the hair only has an indication on the tips. I think if you treated the hair's reaction to the light like the shirt (or more like the eyes, since you like highlights), there would be a better sense of depth here.

I personally like a harder contrast style (so hopefully I'm not being bias in my crits ), but I do think low contrast coloring can be effective. I do find the background to have a nice feel to it, and the subtle white outline on Sasuke is a nice touch too. I also think the eyes bring in some nice character.

Hopefully I'm not sounding too critical here; because I think it's a pretty nice rendering overall.
