I wondered if I could still pull something off with charcoals and gave it a shot... I decided to draw Franky because for one, he's so very easy to draw, and also, my watchers who like OP rarely get anything, and this would be good for them.Charcoals, of course. Instead of cardstock I went ahead and used printer paper in case something went wrong; I think charcoals work just fine on printer paper, unlike my pens, which prefer the cardstock.
I used all three kinds--medium, soft, and extra soft, and used some white charcoal on the nose. Tried to use the white on the chain, but it didn't really show.
I LOVE my new scanner.
With it, you can actually SEE the different values and details of the charcoal, unlike most...anything else I've scanned in the past.

Seriously, this is very cool! ive always wanted to work wit charcoals, but i never seem 2 ave time, or any charcoals lol

Charcoals are actually very fast to work with--I usually do them when I don't have time for pen, or am in the mood for it. Depending on the type you get, they can be pretty cheap. I don't think I paid much at all for my set...I got them at Walmart.

this is really cool XD i think the first thing i noticed actually was how his jaw sticks out on the other side of his face, and how...well-done the jaw structure is in general. i really really like all the shading, and i like how his other eye can kind of be seen... i really like the different textures, like the shirt vs. his hair... and of course, i like all the details XD the adam's apple is impressive, and i like the chin... the face-shading is really awesome. the facial structure is good in general, i like it... i like his expression... i'll never understand your obsession with neck tendons and collarbones, but those look fine too XD they fit the pic well. the white charcoal shows up in the nose and looks good, and i like the chain...though it could maybe look more dramatic, perhaps...idk XD oh, i like your cool lettering XD the pic looks...realism-ish, cuz of the awesomeness of the shading and textures, and yet it still looks cartoony. is...very cool XD it's a very successful pic overall, it all looks really great. the face is my fave part though, all the shading and structure... very impressive work
