I've had this idea ever since I first watched the movie. I dunno why I havent drawn this earlier. I felt so sorry for Loki. He really deserved an apology. And he needed to be hugged and comforted... I mean, they should have told him at some point.Even so, I thought it was extremely sweet how they wanted to protect him from the truth. I guess they just did what they thought was best for Loki

From that line, I guessed that Loki had been repeatedly assured of his parents affections in the past. Maybe he has a history of needing constant reassurance? After a prank?
I hated Odin's depiction in TDW, as it seemed to undo the work in tge first Thor movie.

Well, they did do what they THOUGHT was best, even if we can tell it wasn't always the best option to take...although apparently that didn't extend to catching him when he let go of Gungnir.....

Poor loki 
It isn't that Odin doesn't love him. He does. But he is a terrible failure at expressing his feelings. And I can understand he had paid much more attention to Thor, who, after all, was the stupidest one and about to become a king. I think he just did had faith in Loki's intelligence and absolutely forgot to look about him.
And I bet he could have shoved more support to Loki if he didn't fallen asleep. If it wasn't for Frigga maybe it could have been worse.
Well, Frigga is another story.

Hell, even a simple "I love you" or the least BIT of sincere emotion toward him would've done wonders in Thor. Seriously, the only time Odin shows any passion or strong emotion toward Loki in the movie is to roar at him for trying to interrupt his alpha-dog shouting match with Thor. Telling him he's adopted? The guy was like a statue. Trying to convince him not to fall into an abyss? "No, Loki." What the FUCK, dude. One right word at the right time and you could've saved Midgard a hell of a lot of trouble. An actual hug might've stopped friggin' time.

hm. well. they shouldnt have favored Thor :/ but I cant agree with what you said about Odin not showing any emotions. I thought he was softer towards Loki than towards Thor and I know I saw a tear in his eye when Loki fell in the end of the movie. Of course they love Loki and I think it shows (he is their son after all :/ ) even though they might have favored Thor :/

Yeah, but he couldn't summon up a single encouraging word when his emotionally unstable adopted son was dangling on the brink of suicide. And if you think he acts softer to Loki, look at the argument they're having just before he casts Thor out. They're yelling at each other, Loki tries to say something, Odin just turns and points and ROARS at him. He can't even be bothered to use words to tell him off. There's that kind of strained dynamic in all of their onscreen interactions, sparse as those are.
I really think their relationship has been decaying for a while. It's not that Odin doesn't love him, it's that he fails to show it - perhaps, in an effort to be a better king and more detached toward his subjects, he's forgotten how. But it's not Thor that doubts. It's not Thor who needs the reassurance. Loki just acts like he's dying for a crumb of praise from his 'father', and it just kills me that Odin, who's right there and has known him all his life, doesn't see that. How do you miss that one of your children is slowly disintegrating under your nose? Odin could have stopped this whole thing long before it had a chance to come to this point.

brink of suicide? I dont think there's been any scene showing that Loki wanted to end his life. From what I see, he wants to live. He uses the hurt to do something he believes in. Trying to be king and take over Earth. Of course Loki was hurt and confused and Odin should've been more supporting when he found out about the frost giant thing but then he fell into the Odinsleep so..if only Odin hadnt fallen asleep there..I'm certain he would've tried to fix the problem and comfort Loki, like Frigga did. I believe that, because of how Odin is, not only in the movie but in the comics. shows that he loves both his sons very much no matter what they do. The scene where he yelled at Loki was because Loki interrupted him while he was yelling at Thor. And he could've banished Loki too...they went to jotunheim together after all. It wasnt like it was only Thor's fault. I also think that Loki finding out he's a giant and confronting Odin about it so suddenly made Odin shocked and he was probably at loss of words. He wasnt prepared for Loki finding out so suddenly. I guess we just experienced the movie differently

What do you think he did at the end? Loki had no idea if that vortex of spacetime would kill him or not, and I'm pretty sure he hoped it would. You look at that face of absolute despair at the end, and the way it goes blank after Odin speaks, and tell me he wasn't feeling self-destructive when he let go.
The real point is that Odin should have told him all of this from the beginning. Loki, the so-called liar and deceiver, has been lied to and deceived about his entire life, and yet many people (like you) are keen to overlook that. And there is little to no evidence that he was an especially loving father in the movieverse, either. You can't go by the comics, because they're a different storyline entirely (several different storylines, actually). We don't see much interaction between them in the movie, but the only real warmth and fatherly behavior toward Loki in the film is at the beginning, when they're kids. It's easy to love your kids when they're kids - they're small and cute then. But I'm pretty sure that as Loki got older, Odin grew colder, and their relationship more strained. Loki isn't starved for attention and praise because Odin's been feeding it to him all this time, I can tell you that.
Odin screwed up. I'm not disputing that he loves Loki - he loved him from the moment he first held that baby and smiled down at him in spite of his missing eye. But loving your kid isn't enough to make you a good parent. Lots of parents love their children and still do a shitty job with them. And Odin definitely belongs on that list. He screwed up, repeatedly, god or no.

...seriously...Like I said, we experienced the movie differently and that's very rude of you to accuse me of having overlooked the fact that he's been lied to and deceived. You're putting words in my mouth. I never said he hasnt been lied to. Dunno where you got that from. And Like Odin said, he kept the truth from him because he wanted to protect him and they didnt want Loki to feel different. I dont think Odin lied to him when he said that. And I think the movie shows that both Odin and Frigga are very loving parents. That's what I believe. So there's no need for you to tell me how it "really is" according to your opinions. We experienced it differently and apparently have different opinions.

If you think that was rude, you have never experienced true rudeness. Respecting different opinions is all well and good, but I think your view is a little too rosy to be realistic. Odin loves Loki, but he wasn't exactly loving TO him, or Loki would've never gotten to this state. I respect your opinion, but I challenge it all the same.

...you dont know what I have experienced or not, so dont go there. Just because there are people who are more rude, doesnt mean you werent rude. And yes, Odin favored Thor but Loki is also mentally unstable. We dont know how loving Odin has been towards his sons since we dont get to see much of it in the movie but I dont believe Odin favoring Thor is all the reason to how Loki is.

Not only did Loki already feel inferior next to Thor but he also just found out a major life changing truth about himself. His real father abandoned him and his adoptive father let him down . Poor Loki, he must've felt so alone.

Yeah I to feel bad for Loki:And like you said. They must have taught it was best. Not just cuz Frigga said. They didn't want him to feel different. They may have also thought. Everybody may treat him like a monster. If you ask me. I don't think Odin and Frigga favorite any of they sons. They love Thor and Loki. No more and no less then the other.
