Ooo, just to add my opinion to a debate, when it comes to his scar it is on his right side. When Sansa described it in the middle of the field apparently she was referring to her left as she saw him in her perspective, not his left, so it would have actually been on his right side. When GRRM advised on the show he corrected how it is represented. That's what I heard anyway . . .

Oh boy…Well, lord, I keep flip flopping it. I think for the time being (as I've gotten very used to drawing it on his left), I'll keep it as is. You should let the good ASoIaF tumblr people know this, though, it's been a topic a few times.

It'll probably be one of those things people keep arguing about, I don't suppose it really matters what side it is on, at the end of the day the man has half his face burned off and everyone seems to prefer the left anyway.
From what I have seen of your art, you seem to like the idea of Sansa and Sandor getting together as much as I do, there is definitely plenty of foreshadowing in the books to back us up, and like I said I really like your book inspired version of him . . . Rory is great but I am definitely a fan of young and fierce.

I'm not sure which I'm more comfortable with drawing, the left or the right.
I'd love to see them meet again, hopefully under better circumstances. Either with him becoming her sworn shield, her man at arms in Winterfell or the Eyrie, or Sandor searching for Sansa finding her living somewhere oversees where no one bothers them ever again

Thanks, yeah, it's always evolving, used to be much more Rory. I'm all about the young and the restless

Gotta admit I like this version of Sandor. I am not a fan of the show's version, I like Rory, but, I suppose, because I read the books first, it was a bit jarring to turn the young, fierce twenty something version of Sandor into an older, worn, brooding version in my head. For me the show version is too old and calm, whenever I see him I see Rory McCann and it doesn't fit. It doesn't help that the show changed so much of his story line, I just found him a bit lame to be honest although Rory does a very good job. But this younger, sharp featured, fierce version . . . absolutely!!! I can totally see him within the pages of GRRM's book.

I hope you do not think I am being nasty about your artwork when I say I do not like the show version, I am only meaning that version, not your skill as an artist . . . because you are great.

I still wonder why they went with older/softer Sandor vs. Book! Sandor. And like you, I think Rory is a fantastic actor, and has done very well for his part as show! Sandor (I hear his voice for the Hound when reading asoiaf). And the story line…I understand why the touching/intimate encounters/ were excluded what with the age difference and all, but in another D&D world I would have loved to have seen a younger cast Sandor with more book characteristics and traits.

Not at all! I appreciate anyone's feedback or comments (thanks for the scar info, too), so no worries. Thanks very much!

Personally I think they did it to down play his character, I think he will be killed in this up coming season whereas book Sandor lives on and I think will play a much greater role. The age difference didn't stop them with Daenerys, and had they cast Sandor younger and Sansa slightly more mature the issue would have been even less. I like the show but they have kinda failed to understand some of the underlying threads, or their importance. Sandor in the books could well become a key player, there has been a lot of foreshadowing. I agree about Rory's voice, he has the right sort of gravel to his tone.

I agree with you there. I heard Rory say the Hound really comes into play this season, but like you, I think this is his "moment" before, well, the inevitable happens. And I also am hopeful that his story will play on in TwoW or ADoS, but now everyone's concerned the show will have too much influence/effect over the books, and that GRRM will take different routes. I don't know, I'm not worried. Writers are not so easily swayed. Definitely lots of foreshadowing, lots of theories. My personal favorite is Sandor being reincarnated as Azor Ahai

Neonebulosa In reply to kallielef [2014-03-23 10:48:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I can see the Azor Ahai argument, as for them meeting again, in the book the set up and foreshadowing has been so present throughout Sansa's story line I can't imagine anything else happening.
I don't really think George will let the show sway him, he does not even like fan-fiction, and he is notoriously stubborn when it comes to asoiaf, if he dies he won't let anyone else take the book over, so I can't imagine him changing his mind on the plot.
Hopefully though we will actually get the books and not a whole wheel of time scenario, except with no backup author.

I will be devastated if he passes before the books finish. I'm already on pins and needles about the books, and would much rather get my fill of those than the show. Not that the show hasn't done a good job, I'm so excited for season 4, I just need to know that GRRM is secretly wrapping up ADoS, and the books will be out sooner than not.

OMG there's a new chapter up on Martin's website and considering what "Mercy's" been up to, I doubt GRRM would have any trouble getting Sansa and the Hound together if that was where he chose to take the story . . . I REALLY, REALLY want WOW to come out already.

I've heard a lot of controversy about it. Unfortunately, I can't put too much say in since I'm a newbie, BUT YOU HAVE PEAKED MY INTEREST. Ugh…I just heard, or felt from seasoned readers that they don't have much hope for the Stark women

Excellent, as usual, and the reddish hues are the perfect background for his expression. Still, I have to confess that I am absolutely in love with your older (or maybe not too much older than this...), bearded, GOT Sandor

Thank you!Oh you mean just the other ones with a beard or the older works? I'm always interested in which Sandor people are more fascinated with. I love beardy Sandor too (which is partly why I like Rory's portrayal), but I keep making him less scruff nowadays (perhaps because I imagine he wouldn't keep a beard/stache he couldn't fully grow out).

I am fascinated with Rory's Sandor, and that means a man which looks to be 40 something, having a nice short beard which covers his neck also, and having his rough handsomeness so to say The one you pictured in "Kiss on the lips" is simply perfect, and THAT in fact is my favorite of all times, as it perfectly combines the differences I adore in their couple (age and size), a unique feeling of tenderness and passion, which all in all makes it more sexy than other much more explicit drawings I've seen. I've noticed that lately you tend to "see" him younger and less scruff like you say, but keeping the same harsh features and dark expression. Still, as I am a lost case of fluff-addiction, I will keep dreaming of the other Sandor ) And by the way, I giggled uncontrollably seeing your last cartoon - OMG, that was excellent !!!

Thank you, dear Kallie You're simply the best...

Oh lawd, I kind of squirm when I look at those…I need to revamp them. I'm glad you like them, though, I really did enjoy making them (but I see a lot of errors now that I'd like to remedy).

Ok, the scruffiness, yes, I wholly agree. A man IMHO looks good scruffy and beardy, and I don't know why but recently I've really moved away from a lot of Rory's characteristics. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love him for Sandor, but I'm reading the books and I'm getting these push and pulls to move in different directions with the Hound. For now, yes, he's losing his beard more, but eyes are very important to me so I keep Rory's. At least the eyebrows.

Don't worry though, I need to try different Sandor styles out, and I'm playing with Rory's look again.

Thank you so much for all your interest and support, it keeps me going! <3

Love how you painted Sandor here... he's so much closer to the way I've always envisioned book!Sandor in my head.

Beautiful job, Kallielef.

Cool! Glad to hear it! This is how I imagine him, I think. A bit mad. Thank you so much! Ahh I love that gif, so cute!

You've very welcome.

When you say he's a bit mad... do you mean that our boy's gone 'as mad as a hatter?' Or just acting like his usual grumpy ol', ever brooding self?

Regardless, I think I'd still love the big lug either way.

And just you know... even though my headcanon Sandor doesn't wear a full beard and mustache (due to the horrible scarring, as described by GRRM, on the lower half of his face) I too have grown to really enjoy all your pieces depicting your bearded Sandor as well, especially since joining Tumblr.

Keep up the awesome work!

kallielef In reply to badlilmunkee [2014-02-22 17:59:06 +0000 UTC]

BOTH, for sure. I wanted him to have that look I imagine he gets when he's losing himself either in the drinks or in battle.

We all love the lug, I think, and want someone to love on him. XS

Thanks! Yeah, I still keep a rather thin beard/stache on him for personal ilovebeards reasons, but I agree. I don't believe Sandor would keep one, it would make his face even more asymmetrical.

Thanks I will try! <3
