Description I came across an avatar that striked my fancy - so I asked her if I could make some art of her, and she said yes!

So here's a simple headshot of her avatar.

(I couldn't really capture all the details though TT_TT)

What a cute character~ I can understand why you wanted to make art of it when you saw it.

You're a very good artist too

It really is, it's adorable! And she was lucky to have you draw it, teehee. xDD

No problem. I glanced through your gallery really quick and I'm suprised you don't have as much watchers/feedback as you should. You're artwork is really awesome.

thank you again!

On DA it's quite hard to gain a lot of feedback and watchers, if you don't have the luck, friends or connections. Most of the feedback I get are from submitting to groups. XD I'm not really sure how the popular artists actually got popular.

But in the end I really love to draw, and I always look for ways to improve my drawings. It's like an addiction XDDD <3

Trust me on this, there are plenty of awesome artists on DA who are just hidden below the tens of thousands of deviations. I've seen one person with AWESOMEE anime art, even better than some of the front-page people's art, and who only have like 2000 page views. (And had an account for like, 1 year?)

Again, thanks! ^_^

No problem~ XDD

Ahh, trust me, I know. I've been on DA for a year, and granted my drawings aren't the best, but I only have like 35 watchers ._. There are some people who have like thousands of watchers and I wonder how the heck they got that many. XDD

I love drawing too xD I keep trying to improve as well. I think in the end it's better to want to draw then to try and make your art popular.

Wow. That's really sad, I mean some of the front page art isn't even that amazing, so I don't know how it got so many views and favorites. I tend to look at the "recently submitted" and look at the good pieces of art and comment, good artists deserve feedback ^_^

Your art is quite interesting. ^_^ Really liked the monster one .
Yeah one artist - angelskully (she draws loads of kuroshitsuji fanart) - has tons and tons of watchers. At first glance, her work is very nice, just like the anime itself. But then you start seeing so many anatomical mistakes, many bad coloring choices, etc. One picture of hers, which is now a daily deviation, looks like a collage according to one of my friends. ([link] )

And some of the 'popular' artists reuse the same concepts all the time. So in the end the popular front page is essentially displaying the same kind of art every day.

But yeah, the same thing happens with music. XD I think the mainstream radio can tell you the exact same thing.

I think I'll follow your example and set my front page to most recent. ^_^ I'm sure there's loads of unique and decent art there as well. What a strange coincidence that my avvie art got someone to inspire me to do so! XD

Thank you. It's hard for me to do digital art [as much as I like it] because I don't have a tablet and I have a very bad photoshop I think I've heard of Angelsully... and that picture isn't the best. The guy in the middle is alright, but on the left it looks like there's three floating heads. And as your friend said, a collage.

Ahh yeah. There needs to be some different art! and concepts! As you probably noticed, I do all sorts of art. I don't like just sticking to one type/concept. Also, popular artists at times can be very snotty about their work. A lot of them think they're better than everyone. Which isn't true. Some people [like me teehee] just need some practice ^^

Oh I know! Being a guitarist who records, I can honestly say music needs to vary a little. I know I'm never going to be famous/popular with my music, but when I come out with my local cd [nothing big] the music on it is going to sound different and actually have a catchy beat/meaning.

Haha, good choice. That's how I found a lot of my favorite artists. Usually the best stuff is the least popular xD

When I first started with digital art, it was for me quite hard adapting to the computer . So I can understand how you feel about it. I still feel more at ease with drawing in pencil than with a tablet pen. (the tablet pen's tip wears out too quickly for me D<) But it's totally worth it!

Variety is healthy. ^_^ If you see the same kind of thing over and over again, your mind will get too used to it and you'll just think in monotone. Almost closed-minded like XD.

Yeah, I agree with you. Some popular artists just love to lord themselves over others XD.

Woah! It's amazing what random encounters can tell you XD. Good luck on your CD ^_^. Yeah, some music like Lady Gaga's is actually unique - but then some copycats like Kesha come along and kind of dilute the uniqueness of her music. I prefer listening to music like from Leonard Cohen and Deep Forest, where the original soul and character of the music makes it stand out from the mainstream. Perhaps not being so popular is a good thing - then you don't have to conform to the fans.

As for the last sentence, I totally agree XD

Ahh yes! It was the same for me. Now I don't have a tablet and it's super hard to do with a touchpad >_< I prefer sketching, and I think I'm better at it, but to me digital art looks better in my dA gallery so I don't always put my sketches up. I'm getting a tablet for my birthday though~ [Which means I don't have to wait much longer!]

That's my philosophy, haha. I tend to think outside the box, where as most people are wired into what everyone else does and they soon have a monotonous habit of copying everyone and pretty soon everything looks the same.

Gahh. I know it x.x oh and I hate the artists who give "criticism" that isn't at all helpful... I had once person try and re-draw my art for me and told me how I was doing everything wrong. Well it doesn't exactly help if they're just going to redraw it for me ._.

Haha, I know! And thank you xD It's nothing big, but it'll be an experience. I actually like Lady Gaga, but Ke$ha is just plain boring. >_< I like metamorphosis metal, like tool/10 years/32 Leaves/Sinch and it's really cool because tool won't sell their stuff on itunes because they don't want to be "mainstream" Sometimes being less popular IS better

Here's a happy early birthday! The tablet is going to be fun! <3

Yeah, that kind of mentality that the majority of people adopt can be seen everywhere - art, music, work, clothes - I admit that I've been on and off with that kind of mentality, especially during the exam times when I couldn't even think for myself X_X. It's ok to use one of these mainstream themes as a reference, but if no one decides to divert from these themes, what's the whole purpose of it all then?

Oh jeez I completely understand - there are some critics who ruthlessly pin down the artist with every single simple mistake they make. I adore constructive criticism, but if they explain my mistakes as if they were maths mistakes, it's a completely different story. It would almost seem like showing off.

New experiences are always good! Enjoy it . Yeah, being less popular creates more room for freedom. As you get more popular, your fanbase will be expecting (and demanding) the same kind of music over and over. If you try changing the style of music just once, it may make the fans think, "Oh, that's totally not what I've been expecting! I hate this band! They suck! *stops listening to songs*" Smaller fanbases are much more open to changes in music style. ^_^

Thank you much dear! Yes, I'm excited for the tablet. I'm thinking about getting a wacom bamboo, I've heard they're pretty good. ^^

Ahh, exams take everyone out of the loop of things, so it's understandable. I often use popular things as references, but then I stray away from their own style and make it my own.

Gahh, I know. I don't mind CONSTRUCTIVE cristism, but when it gets to the point where the artist is just showing off it's absolutely just plain annoying

I try to make new experiences all the time xD And yeah, it always bothers me when I see people on itunes complaining about certain artists and degrading their music just because they decided to change it up. It's called VARIETY >.> It happens, jeez.

Kamo-Mille In reply to foretprincess [2010-07-18 00:18:25 +0000 UTC]

Wacom bamboos are really good! ^_^ I use one too - a black one. Bamboo fun and touch I think. So many names XD.

People expect new songs from the popular artists all the time - in the very same style all the time. Makes you feel bad for the artists XD. Perhaps they also get bored from playing the same style all the time, which could be why some bands split after like 5 years. (Blink 182, for example) On the contrary, one of my favorite singers Leonard Cohen slowly changed his style over the years. No one complained. Either you have to really like the style you play, or you change (either your music style, or disbanding to gain a fresh start).

And now I'll be going to bed. Again, it was really nice and enjoyable talking with you! ^_^ Enjoy that tablet!

Well that's good to hear That's most likely what I'll be getting. xDD

I know~ I feel so bad for many artists! They kind of have to do what the fans demand or their standing rank on the charts is in jeopardy. I've never heard of Leonard Cohen~ I'll have to check his stuff out.

It's probably not night there anymore~ But thanks! It was nice talking to you too!
