Have you ever tried offering this style as a personalized portraits? I'm assuming this picutre is for someone from the title. I think everyone would love to see themselves in this, and what girl doesn't relate to birds, butterflies and the sweetest little things of nature? This is so beautiful, warm and colorful. With a person's antiqued photo they would have this on their wall and think of themselves as a fairy every time they saw it.

My family thinks this is a very good idea, and so do I. I don't know how to go about doing this, but you can be my first example if you want to post a picture of yourself, I will print it in B&W and work around it.

Gah! Don't tempt me! I would love my own fairy picture.
I would suggest people send you a favorite picture of themselves and then you would do a phone interview and just learn about them. What are their interests? favorite colors? Flowers? what is their favorite thing about your style and work? what images speak to them? Favorite songs, quotes, movies, people, words, etc. Whatever it takes to get a sense of their style and how to put in a few key items that will really speak to them and be their picture. Or you could do this in e-mail. I think talking gets a better feel of energy. Then you just do your thing and create it around their picture. I think people like to talk about themselves plenty, it's the subject they know best. I think you as an artist will be able to pull out what would make the best personal collage. I hope you can manipulate their photo to make it look all soft and antique to fit with your style. If you really got generous you could incorporate other favorite images of theirs, like pets, favorite stuffed animals, etc. I bet you could almost come up with a formula- favorite colors blended to start the back ground, one quote or 3 favorite words, their monogram or a distinct letter like you did on Rae, and then whatever images comes up that you talked about. Did you do this for a friend? If you think about it, was the stuff you put in the collage so intimate that no one else would make the connection? Sorry to rant. I hope I'm not sounding bossy. I am just so excited, I am so curious to see how an outside source would inspire you.
Maybe we can do a trade. I'm trying to do personal paintings for others as well and I need to practice. Do you have a size you usually work in? I'm thinking I'd like to do an 8x10. Although, sometimes my designs end up bigger than the paper. I have to go find my most angelic picture now. This might take awhile.
OOOOH! I just had another thought! Create scrapbook templates, make collages, leave windows for people to insert their own photos, and lighter areas so they can write in information. They will have their own scrapbook and control of its layout. You could sell them right here if you made a standard scrapbook size. You could do themes, wedding. . .man, your work is so magical it would make such a beautiful wedding scrapbook. Another idea, offer to make wedding scrapbook pages from all the wedding cards they recieved. Use the signatures and the art work, get it to all tie together in your artsy way. Gold! If you make it big then do mine. I have all my cards and I've been trying to do this. Or, last idea (maybe) design collage "mats" to go around pictures. So, you know, do an 8x10 collage with a 5x7 window for someone's picture, or a bigger mat, a 4x6 window for an 8x10 mat, another thing you could sell as a print on here with the instructions for people to insert their own photo. Of course, you could still put in one of your beautiful retro photos for those that don't want to go to the trouble. Ok, I'm done.

Sorry to take so long to reply, but I was showing your ideas to my family to see what they thought. I think you have some very good ideas, but it is hard to get commissions. However I would be very very happy to do yours, and we can certainly make a trade. I love the style of Jonathan's Living Room, I love paintings of fabric patterns and rugs and curtains and whoa ... I just love patterns, busy patterns. Maybe we could trade something like that for a picture of you in the style of "Rae."

Hey, sorry I have been away from deviant art. A super busy summer has popped up and I am suddenly swamped with art but I really do want to do a trade with you. It probably won't happen till the end of summer but don't forget about me. We can talk more then. I can't guarantee I'll be good at responding but we can talk then. I hope that is OK.
Love,
Rachael

It's funny how different people's reactions can be. I am in a mood where I hate everything I make. Not a good place to be.

It will pass, I am sure, once those crocuses break through. If not the crocuses, then the daffodils!
Hope springs eternal!

I hope so, yesterday I uploaded, then deleted a piece. I asked for feedback in the artist's comments section. Then I got good feedback and decided I would try again. You can tell me what you think too. I'm going to reload, after a frustrating evening of trying to "fix" it. Let me know and be critical. I need that.

Left an opinion, but it is only an opinion!!! You could ask three different people and get three different opinions. The point is that YOU feel it works, right?

Nah, I didn't, that's why I was looking to see what others felt and thought about it.
I am finally done giving birth to it though, I will let it go in peace, perhaps it was was a good lesson, because I did not have a good enough concept of what I wanted it to look like.
Brendan likes it because he can see a spoon in it!

Sometimes I find it takes time for a piece to develop. It is like sometimes I am not ready for the piece, so have to stow it somewhere until I can go further. All in good time...
