Originally developed for Antarctic research and exploration, Iceman would later serve well for food preservation and Hyper Cryo Freeze research with his unique ability to instantaneously freeze objects using a high pressurized desperation of liquid nitrogen which he converts from a nitrogen gas by condensing it inside his own mechanoid body. (This is known as the Ice Slasher system)

The trademark fuzzy hooded cloak Iceman wears was a gift given to him by the Antarctic research crew he was working with, it was not something originally supplied by his creator, Dr.Thomas Light. In a CNN interview with Anderson Cooper, the Antarctic Research crew was asked why they gave a robot a fuzzy cloak, they replied simply, "Because it's cute!", and indeed it is, as Iceman is one of the shortest robots (of the 6 robot masters) at only 4 ft 4 in, with his cloak dragging on the ground behind him.

When I was designing the 6 master robots I wanted them to feel very inhuman (after all, they are meant to be Industrial labor robots) however, Iceman still had to be the cutest of them and still look like a heavy-duty industrial mech (even though I personally think Gutsman is the cutest boss). Some people think he looks creepy as hell instead of cute, which is still fine, after all, he is a bad guy you have to destroy (or knock him out so Dr.Light can reprogram him )
