Sure is, I still find it one of the most beautiful liveries that ever flew in our Air Force (and unfortunately I never saw it in person, it only flew one summer with these colours).

Absolutely stunning! I knew that Tigermeet models always look great (I have Czech Mi-24 from Revell in this scheme, currently waiting for remaking), but this one beats everything I saw in Tigermeets!
Great job on this F-16 and those tiger decals, looks really like painted on! Great work!

I think I know which one you mean. I have the very same set, albeit somewhere hidden in my cellar stash... <.<
The '98 Tiger was indeed one of the most beautiful liveries ever to roll out of the 31 Squadron paintshop (probably together with the '78 Tiger Meet Starfighter ), too bad the paintscheme only lasted a couple of months: she was taken out of service for a complete refit the end of that summer, so all in all she didn't even fly for half a year in that scheme..

Oh yes, definitely!
All in all Revell Tigermeet series, was a very clever idea, to have people some extraordinary painted planes & such.

Yup, it sure is. I'm definitely planning on getting the latest kit (the '09 Tiger Meet Falcon too. Might make for a nice line-up with the '98 Falcon and '78 Starfighter (haven't built the latter yet)...

Well, recently our air force seems to have taken up a tradition of making special liveries which at the same time are spectacular, yet still allow the painted aircraft to be used for operational duties. Although I can't immediately imagine it flying combat missions in its Tiger scheme...

kanyiko In reply to WKucza [2010-08-28 22:42:48 +0000 UTC]
Well, the '78, '85 , '98 and '09 colour schemes were all full airframe, wrap-round ones, as well as the "40 years 31 Sqdn" (1991) one. Usually, the markings in other years were limited to the vertical tail only, however in the past few years they have often expanded to the horizontal tail and ventral fin surfaces as well... :3
And to say that people complain F-16s only come in boring grey schemes...

WKucza In reply to kanyiko [2010-08-29 10:19:25 +0000 UTC]
You only need to find good ones! And find good F-16 moulds as well... We got a Mastercraft model producer, who does quite a lot of interesting versions of many aircrafts, but models itself are... a little crapy is to be very kind. Not to mentions that decals like to be incomplete...
But yes, Tigermeet schemes are amongst my very favourite ones!

Awesome! I have the 1/48 version, built with the wheels up. It's in storage now. Those big tiger stripes decals were hard - your's turned out nice and smooth!

kanyiko In reply to NavJAG [2010-08-27 01:47:21 +0000 UTC]
Why, thanks!
I remember I used quite an amount of "medium" decal setting fluid on this kit, to get the decals nicely wrapped around some of the surfaces...

It definitely paid off - I think that is the best Tiger Meet scheme out there!

As do Danny (from Daco - who designed the decals) and Johan (who designed the real-life scheme - still got half a dozen of his schemes to finish, too).
I still need to make its companion piece, the White Falcon... it's just about as stunning as its Tiger counterpart. :3

Decalling this bird was rather easy, Danny did a helluva job when he designed those decal sheets. I just wish he would finally issue those Meteor, Thunderjet and Dakota sets he once promised me... :/

i always like the red-white-blue scheme on the first prototype, and GD painted one in a one-off blue-grey and off-white scheme back in the 70s that looked good too. sort of a cloud/sky camo.

I actually recently saw a kit with that scheme a couple of days ago sale at a bargain market - luckily I first checked the kit, though, as it did contain the right plans and decals, but the wrong plane (a Harrier... <.< )

Tamiya 1/48 - General Dynamics F-16A prototype scheme (Red/White/Blue)
I seem to remember Revell had a similar (1/72 scale) kit for a long time, with both the Prototype 'red, white & blue', and the 'off-grey' camo schemes... but it's been discontinued for some years now.

The decals you've placed are superb. Feels like it was painted, and for a '72 craft, that's even more eye-popping!
Maybe a bit of wash to the panel lines won't hurt it a bit.
Am building the same aircraft, Block 50 F-16C and was planning on doing Tiger Stripes but in '48.

Thank you for the comment - and the fave too! ^_^
If it's exactly the same aircraft you're building, I have to warn you for a couple of potential pitfalls, as the F-16C differs from the F-16A in a lot of places - FA-71 (the Tiger plane) in particular is a very tricky one, as it had a number of updates resulting in some exterior differences to a standard F-16...

Nah, don't worry mate. I'm just for the color, not for total accuracy down to minor details. Plain ole grey Viper is boring. Aggressor is nice, but I'll reserve it for future paint scheme.
