Description
Odense Railway Museum (Denmark), August 31st 2014
A converted 1933 Pontiac car, used as a railway motor trolley, is displayed at the Odense Railway Museum.
Built as a normal road car in 1933, this particular Pontiac was exported to Denmark and purchased by a local grocer in Frederikshavn (in the north of Denmark) in 1934. Five years later in 1939, the car started a second career as a taxi cab. However, in 1944, under the German Occupation, the car was purchased by the private railway Skagenbanen (SB) for use as a railway motor trolley. Her wheels were replaced by rail wheels, and due to the shortage of petrol, her engine was replaced by a gas generator. Post-War, her original 8-cylinder 3.6L engine was re-installed, but as time progressed, she was only used anymore for special occasions. Eventually, in 2008 (!) she was donated by the SB to the Railway Museum.
