Description If history teaches us a lesson,

whether it were the shells and grenades of the German Imperial Army in the First World War,
or the bombs and grenades of the Nazis during the Second World War;
the bombs and bullets of the FLN during the Algerian War,
or the violence of the OAS during said war's aftermath;
the attacks of the GIA extremists in 1995,
or those of the terrorists in 2015;

it is that the spirits of the people of Paris and France will never be broken by violence.

Vive la République! Vive la France!

Nice tribute!  Also, Love the stark black and white for the somberness of the event.

On a personal note, I wasn't aware that the Eiffel Tower lined up with other city features.

Yes and no.

The Eiffel Tower was built in 1888/89 opposite the École Supérieure de Guerre, which was built in 1876, with the Champ de Mars (Marching Ground) inbetween them.  When Paris hosted the 1900 World Exhibition, the Palais de Trocadero was built on the opposite side of the Seine, lined up with the Military School and Eiffel Tower - upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…

However, this building was short-lived (as was, originally planned, the Eiffel Tower - it was planned solely for the World Exhibition of 1889 and should have been dismantled afterwards), and in the 1930s it was torn down to make way for the present-day Palais de Chaillot, built for the 1937 World Exhibition.
