When you follow aviation, you will unavoidably see airlines fail or airline names disappear for various reasons - the list is seemingly endless. Air Inter, Air UK, Aviaco, Birgenair, Britannia Airways, Cimber, CityBird, Continental Airlines, GB Airways, Hapag-Lloyd Flug, Lauda Air, LTU, Maersk Air, Olympic Airways, Pan Am, SABENA, Sterling Airlines, Swissair, TWA... names that have all disappeared into history, either due to merging into other companies, or ceasing operations.

A much rarer event, however, is seeing an airline return from the 'dead' - especially one being 'revived' a year after its original failure.

Following the end of operations by VLM on June 22nd 2016, I never really expected that the airline would ever return. Even after the announcement was made that the airline's assets had been taken over by a consortium, I half expected the scheme to either fold before anything happened, or that the new owners would start all over afresh, with different aircraft, logos and bases.
