Description

Um, okay. This should be a long entry... a REALLY long entry. There's a backstory for each of them (refer to the numbering, clockwise)

1) The First Day

Mike Zacharius was surprised of his Commander Smith's choice of assistants; he understood as to why the gender had to be female (as he too was considered an assistant as well and that he was a male), but he never guessed it had anything to do with that 'old' trainee. She was known as the shy and quiet one, contrasting her wild and messy hairstyle that often times foreshadowed her face. But, she was more renowned as being the oldest of the year's Training Squad; people knew why too - her adoptive parents loved her too much that she lived a rather pampered village life.

The instructors take a joy of forcing labour and extra training onto her, trying to cut down on her chubby and plump figure. She had a rather large pair of upper mounts - oh, Mike never wanted to be rude but the training instructors and nurses like to make fun of her rather 'above average' figure; 'they' were once measured thirty-eight inches wide and had now shrunk slightly to thirty inches wide with 'more muscles', as they said. Her waist was forty-two inches wide and now became thirty-five inches wide; apparently each of her thighs was measured twenty-five inches and had shed into eighteen inches. She weighed almost fifty pounds when she got in and now she lost twenty pounds. This worked very well according to their plans... they think.

"But why?" asked Mike; his raspy tone dire and severe, as if needing the answer to his question like his lungs would require air. Inside though, he was holding his laughter as he reminded himself of the look on the nurses faces when they told him about the girl's first lap run.

Commander Smith shifted in his seat; "Because she makes great coffee."

"That's not why. That's more like how. My question is why her of all people?" It actually and secretly took him off guard, that one.

"Look, Mike," Commander Smith sighed frustratedly; he leaned forward and rested his head in his hands, pressing his temple. "If you don't like her, get used to her."

"It's not that I don't like her. I just want to know why! I mean, there're too much exposure on this girl!"

"I don't know what you're talking about! But whatever it is, it's fine with me so it should be fine with you!"

"B-but, Erwin, you have to understand my needs for clarification. I have to get along with her as well, if we're going to work together everyday of every week! But the girl could barely speak a noun!"

This time, it was his superior that was taken aback by that comment. He leaned back against his chair and gasped, "What are you talking about? I was just talking to her yesterday! She's not mute, you know."

"She's so shy she - wait, she actually spoke to you?"

"Honestly, Mike, what kind of rumours have you heard of her?"

Mike realized now that the Commander of the newly formed Recon Corps had no idea what the girl he chose as his assistant was known as in the Training Corps; his lips shaped into smirk as he nodded his head. "I see now," he spoke with much confidence, "You don't know."

"What is there I need to know? I know she's capable and available, that's all I ever need to know."

"She was - "

Two knocks on the door startled Mike and stopped him at his tracks; the Commander's cold gaze shifted towards the door and he quickly greeted the person to enter. A young and sheepish girl was seen entering from Mike's corner of the room. His lips slowly going from gasp to gaping as he stared her from head to toe; she was smaller than he imagined (and after all those rumours, he had beginning to imagine grossly), was almost three foot shorter than him, and that messy and unkempt raven hair of hers was distracting him. There was also a strange but very pleasant smell coming off from her (despite her looking like a bed-head), aside from a warm radiating heat as she smiled at him and then the Commander. And those pair of deep mahogany eyes - Mike was just... speechless.

"C-Commander S-Smith," she stuttered with helplessness and bleated like goat; but the stance of her salute was firm and perfect, "Private A-Agnes Dein. R-reporting for duty, s-sir."

Suddenly, besides smelling strange things, Mike also saw something strange; the once cold and composed features on his Commander's immaculate face transformed into that of a gentle and kind expression, one that cracked open as if it was a blossoming rose on a fine Spring's day.

"Good day, Agnes," Mike widened his eyes at that; the Commander rarely called a woman by her first name and even if he did, he had a good reason to do so (either it was more than the umpteenth time he met her or that she insisted - the latter more likely). "At ease." She smiled gladly at that, sighing with joy, and slowly loosened her stance; she was still standing when the Commander asked again, "How are things so far?"

"Very good, sir. I've found my quarters cleaned up and ship-shaped for usage, so I am quite contented."

"Ah, spared you from cleaning it?"

"Yes, I hate cleaning. I mean, I do like to keep things clean... I just like to clean my own mess more than other's."

"Don't we all?"

Then, Mike heard a strange thing; it was a laugh - a very simple but honest laugh coming from the Commander. By this time, he not only found no words. He had completely lost his sanity.

"Anyway, this is your fellow comrade," said the young and talented Erwin Smith as he titled his head to the left. "Mike Zacharius is his name."

The girl glanced over to the said person, widening her smile; she walked straight at him and held out her hand rather reluctantly, "H-hello, my name is Agnes."

As if muted, Mike  nodded his head and reached out for her hands; she had stump fingers, soft and smooth to the touch like a child's. He pulled away quickly before his once gross imagination took over. She almost sensed it looming over her meek being as she stared into his own brown orbs - and that made her backed away with a sweats filling her brow. Thankfully for her, the Commander noticed the tension between his two assistants.

"Agnes, could you get me some coffee? I like the one that you made for me on your interview. It was tasty," Erwin admitted rather calmly; though if one would stare very closely, a minute dust of pink were on his cheeks.

She whip her head at him and nodded vigorously at the compliment, "Y-yes, sir! Right a-away! Uh, should I get a cup for you too Mike?"

When she turned to him, Mike froze in a catatonic state of mind so much so that the Commander had to answer for him. With that, she was gone and left the men behind closed doors again; she looked rather too eager to be making coffee, but she made her way towards the pantry holding off that aching feeling of wanting to jump.

Meanwhile, in his office, Commander Smith and his male assistant Mike were confined in silence. Mike knew that his superior wanted an explanation from where they left off, but he didn't know where to start; he knew his gross imagination might just run his mouth over for him.

"Mike, you should explaining now," said the Commander finally; his gaze was sharp, boring into the shrinking walls of his assistant's mind.

Mike gulped,"I think that can wait."

"Till when?"

"When you're ready."

The Commander shrugged, "And I noticed you haven't sniffed her! Aren't you not going to sniff her?"

"What are you talking about?"

Erwin waited patiently for what came next.

"I already did."

"When?"

"From a far! It's rude to sniff on a young woman!"

"But you didn't have any problem with sniffing that strange Zoe."

"She was an exception to the rule. Plus, she smelled awesome."

"Who - Zoe or Agnes?"

Ah, that name. "Agnes, of course," smiled Mike, "I can't wait to smell more of her."

A silent sweat beaded down the Commander's cheeks as he looked away; "Sometimes I wonder why I chose you."

2) Corporal Levi's Birthday Party

Levi didn't expect anyone to be around in the mess hall at this hour, especially since everyone had drunk a lot of wine and malt beer, filled their head of hair with pieces of confetti and spent about twelve hours preparing and celebrating his birthday. Strange enough though, he woke up with a rather bad feeling about how the day was going to be; in fact that early morning, when Hanji Zoe popped up with several others in his bunk with colourful balloons and glittered confetti poppers, he had only one thing in mind. He needed to find whoever it was that leaked out his birthday details and there were only two persons in his mind that has access to his file in Commander Smith's office: Mike Zacharius and Agnes Dein.

There was no way the first would do something like - just no way. But then, just thinking of Dein made his blood boil. He was sure that she had something (or perhaps everything) to do with it. She never liked him anyway and he never liked her; they always argue whenever they see each other.

But at the same time, it couldn't have been her. She didn't look comfortable that morning when he greeted her with an insult, as if she knew in the back of her mind that he would suspect her as having anything to do with the celebration. As far as he knew, she hated him so she wouldn't have panicked when he did that now, would he? Come to think of it, she was probably the only one in the party that was fidgeting and anxiously asking around for the snitch. He didn't know why she'd do that. It was like she… tried to make up with him.

Shaking his head, he took up his sack of wine up his chin and entered the mess hall after he took a sip; he stumbled at the sight of a single person seated on the prominent empty benches ahead with a single candle as company. He recognized that strangely unkempt hair and slightly stout figure, wearing only sleeveless vest and shorts. He didn't need to talk to her now. He needed to get away, especially since he had taken more than his own restrictions of drinks; if he talked to her now, he wouldn't know what he'd do. He can't control himself for whatever comes.

"Oi, Private Dein," he called out to her; it was a forcible one, an unwilling intention to break the ice. "What the hell are you doing still up?"

She jumped at the sound of his voice, as if she had been expecting to be alone. "L-Levi?"

"That's CORPORAL Levi for you. Geez, spent some time celebrating my shitty birthday and you lost your shitty etiquette? I expect better from you, Dein."

"A-Ah, of course. Corporal Levi, what are you doing h-here?"

"What, do I have to pay to be here? Do you own this damn place?"

"N-no, of course not! I-I'm just - "

"Then just shut the hell up," he growled angrily; for a while, he stood there by the door and leaned against its wooden frame, watching her from afar like a hawk. With her back to him, he noticed that there was a shiny halo dancing through the strands of her dark hair as the candle fire wavered.

"H-Happy Birthday, Corporal, s-sir."

"Thanks," he curtly answered, taking another unintended sip of his wine. He glanced over her as she turned over her shoulder, eyes pleading for some company. He wondered why he complied; he walked straight at her and slumped himself into the wooden seat beside her, "What is it?"

"W-what do you mean, sir?"

"What brings you here?"

"I was just thinking."

"About what? About what's your next insult to me? About today being my birthday so you wouldn't say anything against me until it ends? What?" His last word had a strained tone.

She lowered her head, before she shifted her head to him; the long fringes of her hair covered her left eye. That… was what always annoyed him about her.

"Do you always think of me that way?" she spoke with a rather broken tone.

Levi shifted his gaze from some dark corner in the room towards her childishly hilarious face; "Of course," he paused for a while, "If you think of me the same."

"I've never thought badly of you before… I mean, when you insult me, I just wanted to insult you back. I never thought of it in a pre-meditated fashion… did you?"

"Of course not! I'm not a jerk… sort of. It's complicated."

"I'm sorry, Levi."

His silver eyes widened - that wasn't what he expected to hear from her. Was she confessing that she was the snitch? Or was that her present for his birthday?

"I said: I'm sorry."

He didn't respond. He didn't know how.

"I'm sorry that I was rude to you… for all the times we've always been fighting, for calling you names, for all of that. I'm sorry."

He still didn't respond; his fingers were limb around the sack in his hands.

"I'm sorry… I couldn't find out who told Hanji that your birthday is the same day as Wall Sina's Day. I definitely wouldn't have told anyone, even if I knew. I just that found out for myself today."

He shrugged and scoffed this time, "Tch. You didn't have to do that."

"It's just that I know we haven't been on the same page since - well, never! So I wanted to make up for it on this special day… even if at the very last minute. My mother taught me very well to always be considerate of other's feelings and yet I didn't seem to grasp that lesson."

He ignored his urge to throw the sack at her for being so kind and compassionate at him; his bored gaze looked up to the timber ceiling above, examining as vines from the roses and mistletoes outside began to outgrow each other. Looking at it, he had struck upon a strange idea - one that if executed immediately, he wouldn't have the pains to remember it the rest of the day or week or ever. He smirked slowly, ears listening to her silent petition for his mercy and forgiveness, and eyes slowly veering towards the woman beside him.

He placed the sack of wine on the table behind him and leaned towards her; she saw him at the corner of her eyes, but it was too late for her to avoid him from any contact whatsoever.

He meshed his lips onto hers, his stiffened posture easing to the warmth of her skin. He had totally forgotten everything about himself; at that moment, he only wanted what his body wanted. It was a stupid thing to do, he admitted that, but it was rather worth it. He liked how she unexpectedly loosened up to his cold touch when he grabbed her by the shoulders, pulling her closer to him. The heat from their hitched breaths were beginning to exude through the thin fabric of their clothing. Before they could deepen their kiss, Levi broke off and pulled away; he slumped himself over the table and laid there crossing his arms motionlessly, leaving her breathless and puzzled.

"There," his whisper were breaking at the ends, "You've given me enough present."

She somewhat managed to stare at him indifferently, even as her cheeks were red. "You won't remember this at all now, would you?"

"Most likely, no. Still, it was worth it, wouldn't you say?"

"For a first kiss?" she sheepishly looked away; but she turned back to him as he started to relax on the table, drifting in a drowse. She smiled silently at his closed eyes and reached of his hair, caressing through them - she earned a waking hum from him, but his position remained as his eyes still tight shut. "I guess it was, sir."

3) An Argument Gone Wrong

[Haven't had the time to do this one yet… Will definitely update!]

4) A Casual Meeting?

Agnes was just in the laundry room in her sleeveless vest and white pair of pants; she got rid of her harnesses and belts a while ago, and was now cleaning up the dirtied uniform jacket with her hands. She hummed a silent tune through the lonely, still air.

"You seem happy," said a voice; she didn't have to turn to notice who it was. She knew of him very well.

"What are you doing up, Mike?"

"I had some laundry to do. You?"

"I found a coffee stain on my jacket so I'm cleaning it after a day's soak."

"Geez," said Mike as he entered the room; he walked up next to her and switched on the tap water in the sink beside her, "You and Levi have more in common than I thought!"

She said nothing, just paying careful attention to the fabric in her hands. While she was busy eyeing intently on every thread, Mike took out a basket of his shirts and started to pour detergent on them; he washed his items with his hands as well, grubbing the fabric against each other as he tried to remove any grit, dirt or blood. She glanced at his sink several times, taking note of his stains and his methods but said nothing… for a while.

"Say, Mike," she asked suddenly, "Why was it that you never had sniffed me?"

He turned to her with a blush. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Well, you always sniffed out the newbies."

"That's not the point. I smell traits, not people."

"You smell people's traits; that's both, not one."

"Why would you ask me that anyway?"

"Because I'm curious. You never sniffed me before…"

"I have my reasons."

"The Commander told me," at this, he froze; she saw his reaction and prodded on, "He said you never wanted to even tell him why. I find that strange, Mike; you always will tell him everything so… What is it? Do you hate me? Do I smell that bad? I can't helped but be bothered by it!"

"Alright, if you want to know why, promise me you won't bug on this again," Mike gulped down his nervousness. But that failed; he couldn't look at her in the eyes now.

She nodded eagerly, eyes still on her jacket. "Yes, this is a casual meeting. I see no reason why you should be hiding from me."

"It's because you smelt good."

She didn't turn yet.

"No, really, you smelt very nice. No, you still do. I can smell you now…"

That one caught her; she spun at him, noticing him getting closer and his nostrils crinkling in an odd manner. She tried to push him away but just the way he looked like - it was killing her. The laughter broke through her pursed lips and that halted everything. Mike was slowly blushing from cheek to cheek, pouting as he looked away, and the laughter didn't stop. It just went on, cracking through every atom of air like it was never there in the first place.

5) Hanji's First Friend

Hanji Zoe always found it difficult to find friends. So when she joined the Recon Corps, all she wanted to find was a friend that will be there through all the recourse of her actions during her service. She was selected as amongst one of the top Trainees in her class; but she was rather devastated to find out that the first few members of the Corps were all men (one of them, a rather short young man, was even a criminal). She found it hard to fit in physically, that she was only on par with these gentlemen in terms of how or what they think of. Until one day, she met Commander Smith's new assistant in the pantry.

"Hey," she called out to the figure before her; the woman wore a Recon Corps' jacket that went well with her unruly hairdo. "Are you in the Recon Corps?"

The figure turned to face her, revealing auburn eyes that pierced through hers and wide pair of cheeks that she just wanted pinch out of fun. To top it all off, the person who shorter than her as well - a suitable height where she could just pet the person for fun. Fun and friends must go hand in hand, right?

"Yes, as a matter of fact, I am," said the person; she noticed Hanji's badges and saluted, "Private Agnes Dein."

Hanji couldn't hold it back any longer. She jumped at the person and pulled her into a tight embrace; oh, it was so nice to huge someone! "Ohmygod! Forget about that! I'm Hanji Zoe! Please be my friend!"

"U-ugh, um, what?"

"I'm the new squad leader! I've been looking for a friend in this Corps, but we've just born yesterday so they aren't any choices! I can't believe you're in it too!"

"U-um, yes, w-well, I joined it about a week already!"

"Eh, how come I never saw you?"

"Well, I-I'm Commander Smith's assistant…"

"Ah, so you were busy! How's it going?"

"It's fine. We've been scanning through thousands of files on trainees."

"Of course," Hanji finally released the girl from her grip and sat down the small dining table there, "Come on now! Tell me something about them! I'm looking some for some squad members myself, as requested by the Commander of course!"

"O-of course! Why not?" Agnes smiled gently and sat down before Hanji; they went on and on about a lot of things, particularly on why they were the only girls in the Corps and how they will try and get more girls on the team. It was a very fun incident and Hanji now found a friend.

I LOVED THE LENGTH. It's good to find long, nice stories. I love Agnes, even if everyone (INCLUDING LEVI -jealous glare-) loves her. XDDDDD Her cares if it's a reader insert. Yours are drawn/written well. XD

I love the 4th drawing the best, but all the stories are good. Mike and Hanji were hilarious. XDDDD

OMIGOD. THANK YOU. I was so worried of the length haha And Thank you for loving Agnes (despite everything -rolls the eyes nervously-) I like her story which is why I'm obsessed with writing it up now! I'm moving houses (we had a very prolonged issue on this) and I'm juggling writing at the same time.... It's almost 2am as we speak! xD

You don't know the whole story, dear. The No.2 story has a longer version; Levi is supposedly drunk, but he gets over his hangover by sleeping and when he did fell asleep and Agnes left the hall, she bumped into Erwin. Erwin wasn't drunk but he wanted to kiss (and he did) and Levi was watching from afar. Things got off even worst for them then (because Levi wanted to be the only one who kisses her - I guess being the man that he is, I figure he would as possessive as much >.>) and he becoem really, really cold to her then.

It's why from dandere (as she is in the picture now) she changes into a tsundere. haha
