Adult Length: 8’ from nose to hips, tail adds an additional 20’
Life expectancy: 60-100 years (up to 150 in captivity)
Habit: swamps, bogs, marshes, wetlands, clean rivers, streams and lakes
Organization: Solitary, not territorial
Features: Some patches of vestigial feathers, ‘feather-scales’ which are not true feathers but scales that are frayed to allow for more ease of motion without losing the hard protection, very long tails to keep them grounded and balanced when attacking anything from above (usu. prey), because of their porous skin, they need to stay in humid environments
Eats: birds, reptiles, amphibians, large insects, some berries,
Basic species history: An offshoot from an otherwise flying genus, this species adapted itself for terrestrial and aquatic life. Has many analogous features to salamanders (eg. slimy skin), but still retains more reptilian features like limited scaling and soft shelled eggs.
Secondary sexual characteristics: Males are a brighter green and yellow than the females and their feather-scales are more showy. The females’ feather-scales are shorter and cover more skin.
