Description I've been going a bit mad, taking photos of everything that will hold still long enough. This is something I found in a neighbourhood garden. I am planning to do a painting of this subject.

Thank you! I was rather pleased with how the camera captured this. I painted a small painting of this, but plan to do a bigger one, as soon as I have more time.

Wonderfully rich photograph Karin - love to see the painting, side by side with the photo.

Thank you, Barry! Probably will be difficult to improve on the photo. That's the downside of showing the photos first. But I will see what I can do.

Karin, The beauty of art is that we are not trying to get photo realism, but impressionistic realism. I've seen how you do this masterfuly - it will look different, but will still be succulant. The comparison will be of interest to me to see how you chose to do this.

Thank you for the lovely comment. I've already done a small trial painting of it, but don't like it that much. Maybe I was trying to hard to make it like the photo. Maybe the bigger one will be better. I appreciate the encouragement.

I find all kinds of small treasures in local gardens. The camera is a great tool to make these small plants really stand out, especially when they are viewed large.

Thank you, Pat! Yes, I was very happy with the photo. I love my little Canon, and it is pretty easy to get a good flower close-up with it. The biggest secret is to have the right light, and to take many photos of the same subject. The flower close-up setting makes it easy to get good close-ups. But I'm sure you already know that. I think this will be really fun to paint in watercolour.

I agree with wynnesome! I thought it might be a painting when I saw the thumbnail. It's beautiful as a photo and I look forward to seeing the painting!

The challenge will be to improve on the photo. Sometimes that seems to daunting. I think I will do a watercolour painting just for fun, and it will make good practice for me. I imagine I will do it big.
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement!

Wow, what a beautiful photograph! Makes me wish I could take photos like that. It would be really pretty with soft pastels, I think. Good luck with your painting if you chose to draw from this! I'll look forward to it!

Thank you for the kind comment! These days it's pretty easy for most people to take good photos. I do have a passion for photography which goes back a long way. I'm fortunate to have a nice little Canon, which takes wonderful close-ups of flowers, with a simple flower/close-up setting. The rest is just experimenting with different lighting conditions. Morning and late afternoon light it best, but I also love back-lighting, with the light comeing from behind the subject. It's magic.

I have a friend who really loves photography (actually a couple, and my father is mad about it) but the one who used to be at least semi-serious about it even went through the whole processes of developing his film in a darkroom. I'm so grateful that there's digital to speed things up, otherwise I'd be very stuck!
