Kept Promise : Soldier! Norway x Reader

(Y/n) wiped the sweat off of her brow with the back of her wrist as she pulled the turkey out from the oven with a small smile. It would just be her and a few friends this year for Christmas, which saddened her greatly. Her fiancé, Lukas Bondevik, was off on patrol in another country, as a lieutenant of the military. As much as she was proud of him, (y/n) still missed him with all of her heart and wanted to see him again. She had hoped he would have been home for the Christmas holiday, but Lukas had told her that he had some work to finish up, and that he would be home by January at the earliest. (Y/n) puffed a few stray strands of (h/c) hair out of her eyes and set everything out on the table. She had no idea how long it would be until her friends all showed up, so she had to-
The buzzing of the doorbell interrupted that thought, and the (e/c) eyed female hastily took off her oven mitts and apron before hurrying to answer the door. Once she opened it, she could see her closest friends standing in the doorway. There were her friends from Switzerland, Vash and his adopted sister Lilli, the Italian twins, the cheerful Feliciano and the ever-grumpy Lovino, the frying-pan-weilding Elizabeta from Hungary, and her ever excitable American friend, Alfred. They had all convened here in Oslo just to support her, as per (y/n)'s request, since Lukas couldn't be there with her this year. Each one knew that she was having a hard time dealing with Lukas' absence, and so each one agreed to come to her home for a small Christmas dinner together.
(Y/n) smiled warmly and waved everyone inside at once, out of the cold and into the warmth of the house. They all piled in, and began to chit chat calmly with one another, commenting on the elegant decorum, doling out a few compliments here and there, and there were some offers to help cook in the kitchen. (Y/n) smiled again and told them that everything was all set up and ready for them, so there was no need for anyone else to try and cook for her now. After a few more pleasantries were exchanged, they all moved to the dining room, where all the food had been laid out beautifully. (Y/n) blushed shyly when everyone complimented her on the layout and look of the food.
Once everyone was seated, they all dug into the food, Alfred forcing (Y/n) to sit down and rest instead of serving everyone herself. More lively chatter filled the room as everyone dined and even (y/n) was smiling and laughing along. She hadn't smiled and laughed quite like that in some time, not since Lukas had received his letter informing him of his deployment. Of course, she put on a brave face for him so that he wouldn't worry as much while he was away, but she knew he could see through it. They had parted with bittersweet kisses and lots of tears and promises of returns. (Y/n)'s mood quickly sobered as she remembered their last moments together, and she ducked her head down to wipe away her tears. The table quieted down as she sniffled quietly.
Elizabeta shared a quick glance with everyone else at the table and nodded at them. She laid a hand gently on (y/n)'s shoulder and suggested that they go ahead and exchange presents in the living room, since most of the food had been eaten already. Alfred complained a little about leaving the food behind, but Vash quickly prodded him over into the next room with everyone else. All the gifts were passed around and opened, one at a time. All of the presents were meaningful, and were received with admiration. All too soon, it seemed, the gifts were all unwrapped and opened. (Y/n) managed a smile and started to thank them all.
"Well, it has been really great to see you all again," she started, brushing more of her (h/c) locks out of her face. "I've really enjoyed this time spent here, and I hope-" Elizabeta cut her off softly with a raised hand and a small smile.
"Ve actually have anozher surprise for you, (y/n). Just vait here, Vash and Alfred vill bring it in for you," the Hungarian woman said, her smile secretive and a hint mischievous. (Y/n) raised her eyebrows and looked at those who were still left sitting on the couches.
"Really? You guys have already showered with me with enough gifts, you don't have to do this for me. Honest!" she protested softly.
"Trust-a me, (y/n)," Lovino interjected, sharing a knowing smirk with Feliciano, "this is-a something you won't-a want to give up."
(Y/n) tossed her hands up to show her surrender, not wanting to argue with all of them for the rest of the evening. Alfred and Vash came back in, carrying a very large wrapped present, and set it down in front of (y/n), smiling at her. Then, they both sat down, and everyone turned to watch her. Elizabeta motioned for (y/n) to go ahead and open it while Lilli pulled out a small camera and pressed record. (Y/n) rolled her eyes, but started to unwrap the gift anyways.
"Seriously? What could possibly be so big that you need a box this size for it? Is this one of those boxes within boxes pranks?" she asked, trying to get through all the wrapping paper covering the box. Finally, she pulled off most of the paper, and started to open the box, when it popped open itself, making her yelp in surprise. When she looked up again, her (e/c) eyes widened and her hands flew up to her mouth. A navy blue uniform, light blond hair, and a silver cross clip registered as extraordinarily familiar to her and she stood up, her mouth open with no words coming out. Even the faint little smirk was there.
"Lukas..?" she asked, not believing her eyes, which were filling up and spilling over with tears already. The Norwegian reached out to her and carefully wiped them away from her cheeks.
"Don't cry, min kjære," was all Lukas needed to say and the real waterworks began. (Y/n) cried out in absolute ecstasy and flung herself into his arms, sobbing happily. Lukas kissed the top of her head, fighting back a few tears of his own and holding her tightly rp his chest. Everyone else in the room burst into applause at the happy reunion and cheered for them. (Y/n) clung to Lukas tightly, only breaking away long enough for a few kisses between the two of them. Lukas gently rubbed her back and pressed a few more kisses into her hair, a faint smile on his lips.
"I promised you I'd be back here soon for you, ja?" he said softly to her. "I made sure that it was a kept promise."
