History:
Born in a small, quiet village some ways away from Windfall, Kaien was born into a family that rode on the coattails of its reputation. They had their status, and despite the issues that were prevalent in the family, their surname was still something to be heeded. With a father that was willing to shake hands with crime and a mother that was more interested in the gains from that crime than anything else, Kaien was expected to simply be out of the way and to entertain himself. He did just that, finding things around the estate to tinker with, wanting to fix anything he could to try and have some semblance of control. Although he was treated with decency, the home he lived in was often cold and dark, his parents spending their time away from the hearth to dip their hands further in seedy dealings.

Some years passed, and by the time he was 11, Kaien found himself realizing more and more the extent of his parents' sins. Disdainful of the ways they abused their reputation, he kept as far away from them and his family name as possible, spending more time away from the estate to explore the village. He saw the way people lived. How they truly lived. He saw all of the craftsmen and merchants, all of the farmers and fishermen, all of the good, honest work people did. And although the solemn, introverted child did not show it, a small ember began to burn in his chest. An ember that ached to feel worthy and useful. But as long as he had his name he found himself being shunned by the villagers, even if the boy had never wanted that family name in the first place. So just as quickly as he had found himself wanting to become something larger than himself, it ebbed away and he receded back into the walls of his home, far away from the sight of those living honestly and with self-respect.

He languished within those walls, and even though he was 13 and growing taller each day, he'd felt even smaller than his nieces and nephews who burbled and toddled around the home whenever his aunts and uncles visited. Fire starved of oxygen couldn't grow. One winter day, Kaien awoke to a furious commotion outside, the teenager walking into the cold light of the morning to find his father in a fierce argument with the town's local blacksmith. Behind him and a slew of guards and samurai, their hands set lightly on the hilts of their blades. The boy didn't understand what had occurred until the smith spoke up, pointing an accusatory finger at the boy's father. He had cheated the man out of almost a year's worth of revenue, going behind his back and making off with numerous swords and tools because of it. The smith had demanded compensation, something to make up for the loss. Something that would show the father how serious the smith's craft was to him, how it was almost more precious to him than his own family.

In the end, it was either his hands, or his child. Kaien's father was unwilling to lose the limbs he had been born with, and so looked to his son, the child he had barely come to know. The young teenager looked to his father, and then to the blacksmith, the boy quiet as ever as he walked over to his new guardian and master. It was an apprenticeship that neither the boy nor the master smith had considered. But the boy, thirteen and gangly with broad shoulders and a dull gaze, realized later that night that he had never looked back, not even once.

The master smith took him into his home, fed him and clothed him and told him to choose a new name. And then, the blacksmith began to teach him the art of the forge. Metal and fire, raw strength and instinct coming together to craft anything from swords to kettles to hammers to hairpins. The boy took in the knowledge voraciously, the ember within him turning to a raging fire, matching in tempo with the forge that powered their craft. To be useful, to have hands that could create honestly, it was the hunger inside of him that never seemed to be satisfied.

And as soon as he stopped to take a breath, the boy was no longer a boy, but a man of twenty-two, long graduated from his apprenticeship that had given him purpose. But there was something more, now. He wanted more than this village where people still knew him by his old name, the one stained with dishonor. So he bid farewell to his master, packing his things and becoming a wandering blacksmith, taking commissions in villages and cities that had need of him.

And eventually he came upon a small village, tiny but growing, in need of a permanent blacksmith. He could see the path before him, then, and eagerly took up the role, making this place his new home. Everything connecting to everything else, people working together to make their own way. And at the heart of the forge, the once-cold ember with new life breathed into it.

Roleplay Information:

- Methods! -
Skype (preferred if i know you), Google Docs (preferred for non-mutuals/people i don't know well), Notes, Chatroom (rarely)

- Style! -
- Most of the time I'll rp lit/para style, if not then I will at least try to match length of the replies people give me. -
- I'll usually only use script style rp for stuff that's more laid-back. Think more slice of life rather than a full-blown storyline. -

Additional Information:
- Is a big bara fire dad (legal disclaimer: not actual dad).
He's not very touchy and often shies away from other's touch; is stiffly/exceptionally formal with those he doesn't know.
Can be....intense when working. Pls watch limbs.
- Honestly is usually in a state of undress; almost never seen in formal wear.
- Hearing damage in right ear, so his hearing is a bit impaired on that side.
-Has a voracious appetite, but especially loves sweets and fruits (peaches = A+).

I love his story and how it built up to him being a blacksmith, I like that someone used a fire type instead of the stereotypical steel type too! Great job, he looks really great!
