Love this picture. Stark, barren and really captures the essence of Pripyat. Just makes you want to see and experience more of the area.

when you took the picture what was it like for you to actually see something from the incident?

seeing picture of Pripyat, for me, its like we came back to the past. the remnant of the past now frozen by the radiation.

It is so sad. A doll once loved and now no one dares retrieve it for it is as potentially cursed as any modern day item can be.

one question.
how did you get to go through chernobyl? wouldnt the radiation be to dangerous?

This was probably taken in Pripyat, a city near Chernobyl. Pripyat was the home to the workers and their families who worked in and around the nuclear site, and the radiation there is not as concentrated as it is nearer to the plant. Plus, your tour guide (because you take a tour through the city) has a Geiger counter, a small, portable device used to measure amounts of radiation in an area. I'm not going to spam you with all I know about Chernobyl/Pripyat and clog up this poor person's comment page more than I already have, so if you want to learn a bit more, message me and we can talk!

Wow it just really captures the imagination, and the fear and panic that must have impacted the victims especially the children.

Did you have to use a special suit when going there? Or could you go in just street clothes? Did you have to check in with the government to get to Pripyat? Or could you just go in without checking in with anyone?

How do you plan a trip there? Do you need some sort of authorization to enter?
What are the risks of going there for like 3 or 4 hours like you probably did?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KasFEAR In reply to Infernalord [2008-12-17 09:29:14 +0000 UTC]

You just need to contact ChernobylInterinform about 3 month earlier, before the trip. And there is a very little list. Almost nothing. We spend like 8 hours in Chernobyl, and no effects at all

This is fantastic, I’ve been looking into the disaster and trying to absorb all the information that I can.
Its so very festinating but the feeling of isolation and destruction is hard to ignore.

Thank you, I think this photo is beautiful and shows how much desolation there is.
