I should've been studying for a midterm. (Edit: I got a 94. LOL)
Mew is in there for old time's sake; it is, technically, the ultimate Pokemon, so it deserves to be in there.
Giratina and the three muses are there too.

Ever consider the possibility that Mew, being the first mortal Pokemon, might have been created by the Lake Guardians in some way? Think about it, they share very similar appearances, personalities, and are even the same type. I think that's why the Lake Guardians are so important, because they're the ones who birthed mortal creatures. And indeed humans evolved from Pokemon, so there's that too.

Oh I like that theory. The Guardians and Mew do share a lot of features. Actually I like to imagine that all the small cute legendary Pokemon are related in some way. :3

Think Celebi was stated somewhere to have a relation to Dialga. Oh, and Deoxys is a Pokemon who's not descended from Mew in any way.

Ones that I think came before Mew, or have no relation to it, would be (besides the obvious seven): Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza (since they were responsible for shaping the planet), Regigigas, Regice, Regirock, Registeel, Latios, Latias, Jirachi, Celebi, Cressalia, Darkrai (I believe those two probably coalesced from the dreams and nightmares of living creatures), Manaphy (and Phione), Heatran, Shaymin, Victini, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Keldeo, Landorus, Thundurus, Tornadus, Kyurem, Reshiram, Zekrom (the latter two are heavily hinted to be the cast off yin and yang of Kyurem), Meloetta, Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde. Not quite every Legendary, but most of them.
I'd say Lugia and Ho-Oh probably preceded Mew as well, but not the Legendary Birds or Beasts because I rather imagine just as Ho-Oh was responsible for transforming three mortal Pokemon into legendary ones, so too was Lugia responsible for transforming three mortal Pokemon into the birds. And Volcanion and Hoopa I don't know enough about to make a judgment call. Diancie is a Mew descendant though, because it mutated from Carbink.
Also I don't think Ditto is related to the Mewtwo experiments. I could accept it being an early derivative of Mew and thus preceding many other mortal Pokemon, but I do think it's much older than the Mewtwo stuff.

I like this I like all of them I think of them as being a family with zekrom and reshiram being arceus's parents and dialga palkia giratina azelf uxie and mesprit being mew's older brothers and sister
