I so hadn't meant to fave and run - when I first saw it I thought it was a sketch of Steven that you had in a book which you had then photographed. Discovering that it was a photo-manipulation did not detract from how beautiful I find this.

A stellar manipulation I must say. This is wonderful on so many different levels.

Oh sweetie........you have so many more talents than you give yourself credit for. This is not only a beautiful submission for the contest but I think its a wonderful portrait/statement on Steven. The little spider additions are, of course, so charmingly HIM...but There are a lot of qualities of Steven that I think get overlooked because so many people are so adversely affected by his photos. (sad...) Steven's work is very "forward"....his images hit most people as abrassive and they speak very strongly of social issues and personal issues. But I feel that that is the very thing that makes his work CLASSIC. And I don't mean classic in the "michaleangelo-isn't-it-purty-sistine-chapel" sort of way....I mean it in the "this is something that will last because it is ALWAYS socially relevant" sort of way. I think the fact that you chose a stock image of him in a very "classical" sort of pose is very fitting, though I'm sure that wasn't your reasoning. If it was...then we think way too much alike.

And I got interrupted by talkative in-laws...so...I forgot where I was going with all this.

It's really well done, sweetie. I think you just need to take far more pride int he work you do. Remember, it's ART. What's important is what it means to YOU and the work you put into it. The only way anyone can determine it's worth is by making judgements based on THEIR individual feelings on it and a comparison to OTHER people's work. Never compare yourself or your art to others. The greatest never did. That's why they were one of a kind. Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Monet...no one's work looked like their work. You have that gift too....so don't hide it or be ashamed of it.
