I had to take a break from work to do this. My feels demanded it so... ;3;UPDATE:

This never made sense to me. Not whether or not two women can love each other. But there is no way two girls fighting over the same guy would just magically get along like this

It wasn't magically it took them 2 seasons to become close friends.

So what two years? Ive known ladies who have held grudges over guys well into their lower thirties.
And they were friends before they each individually dated the guy. Through him in fact.
That would kind of make them even less likely to consider each other as good girlfriends just interacting day to day will constantly bring up their old pain.
I find it believe able that they would both get sick of men and would start dating women over men since they have had a spectacularly bad
experience.
I just find it doubtful that they considered each other as their first choice.
.....unless it's a relationship made specifically to screw with the poor guys head. Which I HAVE seen ladies do a few times.

I was more referring to how they didn't really show the two as friendly with each other till book 3, and I know they were already on decent terms before that but Korra was still dating Edwar-I mean Mako at the time, so it took awhile till they got over the pettiness and whatnot because if I remember correctly book 3 takes place 6 weeks after book 2. Unless by some off chance this was at least Asami's first choice, like when Asami first met Korra she was getting all jealous but in Asamiβs head she was thinking βI am SO tapping thatβ, and she was rightβ¦ kinda cuase the whole thing in the spirit world is left to the fans imagination, our vivid VIVID imagination.

I don't think they hated each other in S1. Only reasons were they were in love with the same guy, and Hiroshi turned out to be an Equalist.

Β Korra and Asami were already very good friends, from episode 7 of Book 1(before that Korra was a little jealous, but when she realized that Asami was nice, cool and badass person, everything changed), even despite the fact that they were in a love triangle with Mako, they are never blamed each other for it, or were angry at each other, Korra has even given up any attempt to be with Mako, Korra even asked Mako to comfort Asami because of her father, and when Asami asked Mako to confess his true feelings for Korra, she admitted that she likes Korra and that she doesn't consider her guilty of this situation.
They are always listening to advice from one another, the plans they had, and never led decisions of each other in question.
The only time they were in any real conflict was due to Asami's father, the first time when Korra accused Asami's father that he is Equalist (Book 1), and the second time when Korra doubted the sincerity of her father (Book 4), but even then, they quickly reconciled and apologized for it.
Korra and Asami perfectly complement one another, this can be seen even in Book 1 and 2, even before Bryke made the final decision that Korrasami will become endgame.

Korrasami art with actual concept behind it: awesome. One of my peeves with the show was that it comes from "nowhere" (at least concerning the first 3/4 or so of the show); this is a logical progression, caught in snapshots.
