Well, if they're gonna screw with anyone why not screw with the least predictable one. Though I've seen some things online saying that Armin and Eren are going to fight or something. Maybe just a fan theory though.

Isayama said it once in an interview, he said that Eren and Armin might not end up as good friends at the end. It could mean alot of things, it could mean that they really won't be friends anymore or they would have disagreements and fights because of their different way of thinking (Armin being ok with sacrificing lives while Eren doesn't fancy the idea)

Well, I think it's logical if they have differing philosophies; musical bands have disbanded for the same reason. And Armin could end up joining the "spoiler trio" since he might see their goals as the greater good. I think it's interesting and not necessarily screwing with his character (I would still send me in panic though).
